A lot of my friends seem to go to the Dr. He tutor in Box Hill; is it really worth it? How much is it per lesson etc?

I've always been quite proficient in maths.. A+ student but hmmm..

It's good if you like a real challenge, and a genuine understanding of the VCE maths course. However, a down side to it is that it runs primarily by an 'Asian' regime, so every week (that is, if you are in the Challenge class) the results for your homework are posted up on the board for all to see; and you are ranked accordingly. Come exam, if you fail to make the cut-off for the Challenge class, he makes it pretty clear by drawing a line on the score sheet demarcating those who were successful and those who were not. But as far as VCE is concerned, the average in his classes are very high, and every year he has around 5 or more students getting 50s in Spesh and Methods.

Hmm that's true. Do you know how much it is? I heard from a few friends that you have to take a very difficult entrance exam; how hard is it? (What topics etc?)

He is good, but not as good as the Onomatopoeic future-Dr-to-be Dr. Ha.

The entrance exam isn't that difficult so long as you know the theory behind the course thoroughly. He throws in very abstract questions, but if you know the stuff, or have seen similar questions in the past, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Tip: Show FULL working out. ;p

From memory, the entrance exam has the typical topics: trig, geometry (maybe some graphs too)
This year the fees are $350 for challenge class and less for the general class in Levels 3,4,5 (MM 1/2, 3/4 and Spesh)
I think Dr He is great, his classes have certainly helped me a lot!
Remember, remember the 5th of November

2010 - MM CAS (47) - Cisco 1+2 (pass :P)
2011 - Eng - Phys - Chem - Spesh - Latin - UMAT
ATAR - 99.00+ plz... :)

Feel free to PM me for anything :D

Haha it seems so intimidating though :P
What topics are usually on it? If possible, could you please give me a few examples of the questions? (So that I can see how difficult it really is?)

Thank you so much everyone :)

I'm sorry, I sat the Level 1 entrance exam (Yr 8), so it wouldn't be much help :)

DR HE IS A FREKIN LEGEND. If you get in the challenge class and apply urself in the hw, listen in class and actually go over ur work and lean for ur mistakes, no joke, you are gunranteed a SS of over 45. (last year the median score for methods was 46 and the median for spech was 44 and that was a not one of the better years)

Obvs i go there and have done so for three years. Highly recommended if you can get in :)

attached is the enrolement info :)

and and trust me, if ur an A + student Dr HE is perfect for you, he just adds that extra polish on ur knowlege to get you the srsly high scores, a 45+ as opposed to a 'just' 40+

From the T&C's

'Activities against the DHMC classroom discipline (no talking, no food, no drink) are not tolerable. The DHMC
coaching centre reserves the right to expel anyone who does not obey the classroom discipline.'

I LOL'ed so hard!  Do they actually enforce this shit?

At my school, we are free to eat food in the science labs haha...

lol np, ummm btw for those stressing about the entrance exam, if you have done well in maths competitions, you don't need to do the entrance exam, refer to the enromlemnt info i attached.

Distinction in Australian Mathematics Competition,
or Merit in Melbourne University Mathematics Competition,
or Distinction in Australian Mathematical Olympiad,
or score of 40% in the DHMC Entry Exam,
or (for Level 5 only) raw score 40 in the VCE mathematical methods exam.

gets you into the general class and

Prize in Australian Mathematics Competition,
or Outstanding in Melbourne University Mathematics Competition,
or High Distinction in Australian Mathematical Olympiad,
or score of 60% in the DHMC Entry Exam,
or (for Level 5 only) raw score 45 in the VCE mathematical methods exam.

for the challange class

i'm sorry i can't comment of the actual exam as i got in bcs i got in on a fluke westpac score :P
