I can't really see someone who loathes maths becoming a mathematician.

listen to what SmRandmAzn said, if you don't get into med then you're a fail azn.

lol jk, on a more serious note, if you're good at maths the physics is not a bad choice either (mathematical physics), if you are good at maths then commerce is another good choice, some really good maths subjects in commerce.
PhD @ MIT (Economics).

Interested in asset pricing, econometrics, and social choice theory.

Given that all those degrees are based on those subjects, then there's nothing wrong with the stereotyping.

I'm a maths/science person who was never any good at English. Anyone who knew me would be certain that I would never do arts and/or law.

More accurate is if you're Asian do med.

And if you're not smart enough for med, do commerce.

And if you're not smart enough for med, do commerce.

And if you're not smart enough to do either med or commerce, do just plain science.  And if you not smart enough to do med, commerce or science, do an arts degree - just for the sake of going to uni (or maybe just for the sake of getting tertiary education since you barely have any contact hours to begin with).

On a more serious note and going back on topic, VCE is completely different from uni.  As Mao and shinny have said, at uni you learn for the sake of learning.  If you have found your interests then pursue them because if you don't, you'll regret it for a long time coming.  I can't remember who said it but a saying goes something along the lines of:

"If you enjoy work, you'll never have to work a day in your life again."

If youve got a high opinion of yourself do law.

If youre a hippie do arts.

If youre asian go to monash or UoM at all costs.

Engineering isn't just for guys. If you're a girl and you do it, they throw a lot of money at you, so I've heard.
