I would be surprised if it goes up again. If you're only a bit under you could easily get an offer anyway. The arts clearly in was 88 and my friend got a second round offer with an 85. Just some extra waiting and hoping :P

I don't really want to wait for a second offer, I heard you're better off going with your first round offer

you have to accept first round offer first ALWAYS.

then if you get a second round for what you want more, then accept that, cancel the first offer.

NEVER wait for second offer

That would be the best idea.  You never know what might happen.  For example, many people thought that the Clearly-In for B.Com at UoM would go up this year but instead, it dropped to many people's surprise.

Maximum of 12 but to be considered for selection, you need to put down at least 1.

EDIT:  Just beaten.

Can someone please explain this general degree before doing the preferred degree at UoM

What do you mean by the "preferred degree"?  Do you mean post-graduate studies like medicine and law?

I've been told that you have to do a "general" degree before you do any other... something like that.

Nope, not really. They've just combined a lot of degrees, so instead of doing a "Bachelor of Economics" or a "Bachelor of Accounting," you'd do the new "Bachelor of Commerce" and pick what you want to do as your major. The only real difference with that system is that you can change what you want to do MUCH easier and have a far wider range of subjects to choose from.

The other key change is that some disciplines are only taught at postgraduate level, including med, law and eng. While it's possible to get into these postgrad courses without having done a relevant course, the vast majority of eng students will take an eng major in their science degree (it's just not recognised as a full qualification until you do the masters), most med students will do the bachelor of biomed and pick relevant majors, and most law students will do some law subjects as breadth in their bachelors. At most they'll add 1-2 years to your degree (my BSci + MEng is 5 years all up, compared to the normal, 4 year BEng).

SEAS applications are at the discretion of the university, there's no "you get a bonus mark" etc., the admissions office just takes it into account when making the offers

So I was looking around on the uni's Bachelor of Science page sussing out majors and what I was gonna do in second year, and I came across something on the page which was interesting. In the corner of the page it says 'An additional 350 places are now available in the Bachelor of Science. Use the approved minimum ATAR 85.00 as your guide.' And then I saw this and thought that it was kinda relevant lol

heres the page: http://bsc.unimelb.edu.au/

Yeah, I got the following email from them:

350 additional places available in the Bachelor of Science in 2011.
Use 85, the approved minimum ATAR for entry, as a guide.

In 2011 the University will be offering 350 more Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) into the Bachelor of Science, reflecting an increase in the number of strong students who were admitted to the course in 2010.
Greater numbers of students, and their advisers, are recognizing the strengths of the BSc at the University, both in terms of providing an excellent and stimulating science foundation for a range of exciting career outcomes, and as a pathway to many graduate programs. 2010 saw a growth in the quality and quantity of applicants for the BSc, which resulted in the Clearly-in-Rank rising to 89.05.
With an increased quota for 2011 of 1500 CSPs, the University is keen to remind prospective students and their advisers that students should ensure they keep their options open during the VTAC preference period. It is important that students do not place undue weight on previous years’ Clearly–in-Ranks in determining what courses they give highest preference to. Clearly–in-Ranks are liable to vary significantly from year to year depending on the level of demand for individual courses and the number of places available. The minimum ATAR of 85.00 should be the figure that students are basing their decisions on, rather than the CIR from 2010, if considering applying for the Bachelor of Science for 2011.
