I've accepted there's a chance i'll miss out on melbourne biomedicine by a few points on my ATAR.
(also while i love the idea of the city la trobe/deakin are easier to get to for me anyway)
so, i'm trying to decide between la trobe and deakin biomedicine/(maybe bachelor of science) degrees.
does anyone have any experience or information on the quality/enjoyability/opportunities that either offers?
i can't find much comparitive information to figure out which would be better...
deakin is slightly more appealing as they have their own postgraduate medicine (though in gellong)... but would that make a huge difference when applying for postgraduate anyway?
any advice would be so, so appreciated.

hey buddy

um personally .. try monash aswell :)
also
... ummm i think .. go look at the majors that each uni has
geelong is easier to get into ( 86.5 enter or so ) .. although its majors are dumb lol
burwood deakin however has a major on genetics/cell changes or something which is more appropiate for transferring to med.
then again .. im not too sure about latrobe bio med . but i hear its also quite good

have a good at majors
do the one that best suits you and you think youd be most interested in
hint hint though . " sports nutrition and exersize major " in geelong deakin isnt really gonna benefit you greatly in the gamsat lol

Not familiar with those specific courses, but a couple of points.

If you're looking to do a BSc and you think you'll only be a couple of points below the UoM Biomedicine cutoff, then you'll be well above the BSc cutoff for UoM (that's only if you want to go there I guess).

If you apply for PG medicine at deakin, they have some bonuses for selection that aren't just academic. The relevant prior learning would apply to any course, not just those at Deakin ugrad.

Quote
»»Relevant Prior Learning (2%);
»»Relevant prior clinical experience (2%);
»»Rural/Regional residency (ASGC-RA 2 to 5) (2% - 4%);
»»Demonstration of financial disadvantage during undergraduate
degree (2%).

Otherwise, don't worry too much about the differences with respect to PG med, all degrees are pretty much equal when applying :)

aha sorry for misunderstanding matt i meant more-so undergraduate at deakin/ la trobe melbourne and postgrad medicine at deakin in geelong.
But that's a good point, i suppose i better use the open days etc. to see what each course really offers in depth/ as majors...
haven't actually looked into ACU myself as yet... should get on that ahah.
too many choices i swear! but very good points, the standard of teaching should be similar... should just see what feels right to me :) thanks guys!
