LOL. Although you did say
"People who've done accounting before please respond!" I thought I'd jump in, since no one really replied.

I'd try to find a balance between doing PRAC exams and making your own notes (do a bit of both!). I'd try doing a variation of exams... from different companies (i.e. NEAP, TSSM - although there may be mistakes in this one, VCAA etc). This helps you a lot as you are exposed to the different type of questions - [theory + practical] and thus, when it comes to doing the actual exam, you won't know a question which you have already seen before. HAVE you done any exams under timed conditions yet?... this also helps when it comes to the real exam.
I'd also make notes on the tricker theory questions (like you said)... then memorises the so-called "template" answers! and summarises key areas of which you found the most difficult. I find that making notes helps you greatly as you are puting information into your own words and thus, are able to understand the concepts in greater depth.
