$b \vec{PM} = a \vec{MQ}$

$\vec{PM} = \frac{a}{b} \vec{MQ}$

$\because \vec{PQ} = q - p = \vec{PM} + \vec{MQ}$

$\therefore q - p = \frac{a}{b} \vec{MQ} + \vec{MQ}$

$q - p = \frac{a + b}{b} \vec{MQ}$

$\vec{MQ} = \frac{b(q - p)}{a + b}$

$\because m = q - \vec{MQ}$

$\therefore m = q - \frac{b(q - p)}{a + b} = \frac{q(a + b) - b(q - p)}{a + b} = \frac{qa + qb - bq + bp}{a + b} = \frac{aq + bp}{a+ b}$
