the formula looks scary :o

how did you guys find probability? My teacher always tells us that people dread it and my firends that did methods last year said it was the hardest topic. For me, although it's not my favourite topic, it's definately by far the easiest.

don't remind me of year 11 probability!! Although I passed the test for it, I didn't understand it, but maybe it's because I didn't do the chapter for it. ::)

I've since done a fair bit at uni. It's quite interesting to see when statistics and probability combine!

when going through checkpoints what's the best thing to do when you get a question wrong. I usually just look and the answer and see where I went wrong. Is this the best approach in improving?? :)

Probably better is to see whether you got it right or wrong (just check the final answer if its not a multiple choice), and before you look at the correct solution, try it again and see if you can get the right answer yourself. You learn ALOT more by practising and learning the analytical skills required in answering questions this way, as opposed to just seeing the correct method to solve that particular question. This is because every year they tend to give new styles of questions, and you really need to prepare for anything that comes up, not just rote learning methods of previous questions that have appeared.

Thanks. I definately have not been doing this with M.C question. I always just look at their answer, make sure I understand it, then move on. I've actually improved in doing this, but I think if I use your advice, and try and figure it out myself I'll do much better. Thanks again. ;)

Yeh everyone finds this to be true. Especially at MHS, we had ridiculous combinatorics questions involving like 3 conditions or so, such as arranging a batch of letters around a music disc (i.e. circular arrangement) where some of the letters were repeated, but certain letters could not be next to one another. Combinatorics makes my head hurt. Normal distribution is MUCH easier =]

yay, i found someone else who procrasinates using maths. :D

so this problem is widespread? Everyone hates year 11 probability and it makes me feel even better about it when the boys at MHS hate it too. I'm so glad they didn't incoorporate the year 11 stuff in this years course.

Still, the year 11 probability is very useful, I think it has more daily applications than year 12 probability

what!! year 12 probability has many life applications. Like come on, finding the probability of whether an old lady, who drinks tea every day, drinks green tea or jasmine is ridicuosly important. Current affair and Today Tonight will probably fight over broadcasting rights on such an issue. ::)
