This is a ugrad course for UoM?

He was referring to a bachelor of science, which is undergrad.

Quote
@RUSS: Is this for UoM or are you just referring to other unis in melbourne? If it is UoM, what course is this?

Sorry, not sure what you mean. What specific thing that I said?

Have you considered nursing? There's a lot of common ground between nursing and medicine in such a way that you can help and care for the people in your community and each day you will have a lasting impact on patients' lives. It's a rewarding job and there's great demand for it in Australia as well.

I thought it about it too. Isn't the pre-requisite for the course the same anyway?

Nursing is available at university and does not have the same pre-reqs as medicine. The prereqs are above 30 in english and general/methods unit 1/2 or any maths at unit 3/4 level, you will be able to get into most unis in victoria. you do not need to do the UMAT to get be considered

@Russ

You're doing Methods, so as long as you get 30+ in that you meet the requirements for Melbourne science afaik. Not sure about Monash, I don't go there. And yes, in the first year of your degree you'll be able to do basic chemistry/biology/physics/maths subjects etc.

I don't think I'm understand this bit.

You need a study score of 30 for methods and reach the cut off enter score to get in. For monash you dont need methods

That WAS what I was saying, but I just checked the science@UoM prereqs and you need 25 in methods but ALSO 25 in one of biology/chemistry/physics.

Since you don't meet these requirements, you'll have to apply elsewhere if you want to do science. Monash only requires that you do one approved subject (methods), so you meet those requirements.

Wrong way around, monash science needs methods only i think but melbourne needs science subjects, i know this because my friend cant get into melbourne due to not doing science subjects so it stuck in my head.

(oops didnt notice you corrected it untill now)

So, what are you thinking of doing right now, nabbiechan?

I'm still planning to do Economics and then do a postgrad medicine in melb/monash.

However, depending on what ATAR score I'm getting, I'm thinking of either getting Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of arts/science or Bachelor of biotech from Monash.  (When I get my ATAR score, I'll probably change my course of preference). :)

Now only problem I have is if I do science, what am I telling my parents... as they really don't like it if I keep changing my preferences. I'll worry about this after exams.

Once you get your ATAR, change your preference and don't tell them until you get your offer? That way you can cut out a whole lot of discussion about whether it's the right idea or not.

Why not go for med at the unis which don't weight ATAR so heavily? Saving yourself a few years of uni wouldn't hurt.
UMAT tuition (95/96%iles, 100%iles in S1/S3 between us): http://vcenotes.com/forum/index.php/topic,33968.0.html

He's saying do ugrad so that you don't have to do an extra degree...but you need the UMAT for that anyway.

^I see. I guess it's still okay to do an extra degree, I get to see whether I want to continue studying it or not.

you could do ugrad nursing to see if med is for you. nursing is easier to get into than med and you will have some advantage over the other students if you decide to do postgrad later on
