I know that Melbourne is in short of engineers but does this include environmental engineers?
Can environmental engineers work at wide range of companies?
is the income high?

engineering is already a high paying sector.
add enviromental into that and you are looking at high pay.
esp if you work in mining/oil
thats just win/win

There will be a great need for environmental engineers in the next few years. They're needed to make sure that our emissions are monitored and minimised and to help in the climate change fight (once the government gets their head around that it does exist).

However this doesn't mean there is a shortage yet that shouldn't stop you. If you really want to do environmental engineering, then go ahead and do it
