Guys, I need help with bio. :(
BIOLOGY Q./reporty thing:

Three duck eggs with their shells removed all wight 50g.They are placed in different concentration, respectively. After two hours, the eggs are reweighed. The egg placed in the 1.0M salt solution weighed 54g, the egg placed in the 1.5M solutioin weighted 50g adn the egg in the 2.0M salt solution weighted 46g.

For each concentration, explain why the egg gained or lost weight or stayed the same weight. (something to do with "transport across plasma membranes" --> osmosis, diffusion, or  hypertonic/isonis/hypertonic solutions)

Try doing this investigation yourself. Are your observations consistent with the results obtained in this question? If not, can you think of reasons why?

Think you should post this in another thread on the Bio board, just to avoid any confusion. :p

Go post in biology and someone who can help you is more likely to see it.

Anyway, assuming that the membrane is impermeable to salt; the 1.5M solution is isotonic, the 1M solution is hypotonic, the 2M solution is hypertonic. You know this because they stayed the same/gained weight/lost weight respectively, so water must be diffusing across the membrane. Since the movement of water is dependent upon ion concentration gradients, you can draw those conclusions.

Just make a new thread in the relevant subforum when you have a new question...

oh crap! sorry Mulan I may have inadvertently destroyed your thread attempting to split the topic. I've never used half my mod powers before =S

Edit: ah never mind I fixed it! The original English thread is back on the second page of the English forums.
