Its also used is for finding the exact values of angles that are outside the standard ones that you learn for methods. i.e

Nope. To date, out of all the exams I've done, I have not seen one question that has asked for the application of the compound angle formula's.

Yeah I have done quite a few exams and I haven't come across it in a methods paper yet. However I know how to apply it as I do spec :D

sweet as, also should we memorise the matrix representations of transformations?

If you think about it, they already have given questions about conditional probability in past VCAA exam 1's. It's just its much easier to use a tree diagram for those questions than it is to use a matrix

i dunno, with those q's i always use matrices and visually think of the probability, ie if he had a beer on thursday, what would be the pr of having a beer on sunday, given that etc etc. Imo matrices are easier and quicker :)

There is a sample 2010 exam 1 for methods and it has matrices on it:
http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vcaa/vce/studies/mathematics/cas/publications/mmcas1-sampfin-w.pdf
But then again, you could answer the question without using matrices lol.

I guess we should come to expect that different people have different ways of perceiving things :)
