What the hell is nSolve.

Numerical solve.
It's a faster way of solving when you need a numerical solution (but only provides one solution).

It's usually much faster.
Especially if you have the TI 89 (I'm assuming you have the NSpire), where some equations take about 5 minutes (if not more) to solve.

Oh fair enough, so it's mainly used for the huge equations then.

Thanks.

cheers, hah i just did the exam as a practice one,

i think question 14 is wrong, i think the answer is 2 not 2.2 anybody agree,

i think the error in the solutions is,

they put .2*1 + .35 * 2 + .3*3 + 4 * .1

the last bit of it should be 4* .05,

cuz they showed r to be .05

question one part G,  they gave the intersection point to be (8.75, 60) it should be (8.25, 60)

I think you're right about the second error; can vaguely remember it.

r is 0.05, but the probability of X being 4 was 2r, so you put 4*0.1

Can someone please explain Q. 17?

I assume you all have the exam, so no need to put question.

Draw them all in the CAS.  Doesn't take too long to just change the few numbers.  You have to choose the graph at which the y-intercept is less than 0, and the point of undefined gradient has to exist at (3,1)

Remember as it is an x^1/3, there will be a point of undefined gradient, which means the tangent will be undefined.  The normal however, will be a horizontal line, with a gradient of 0, and hence the normal has the equation y=1.
