Language analysis. I generally tried to knock it out in around 40 minutes, so doing it first would let me know exactly how long I'd have available to write for the other two pieces which are far more dependent on length to get marks than language analysis is.

language analysis, read the article during reading time to save time
"Don’t ever let somebody tell you you can’t do something, not even me.  Alright?  You got a dream, you gotta protect it.  People can’t do something themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it.  If you want something, go get it, period." - Chris Gardner

I've done two so far. And starting with language analysis helps soooo much. I spend the first 3 minutes looking at the prompt for text response then pick one and come up with a few ideas, then go to context for 2 minutes and get a feel for what the prompt is really asking for and get some examples from the texts then I spend the last 10 minutes going through the article because they can get lengthy so when writing time starts  I've already read the whole article and have it fresh in my memory. I then do context next cos that's my favourite section then text response. But you could do the last bit the other way around if you want.

Good luck :)

k, i guess i'll do lang analysis first. gah, it's my weakest area in english, get it out of the way haha. thank god for lynt's guide, coz i can't remember half the stuff i learned in sem 3 for it lol.
I think i'll do context last, just coz i'm writing a creative piece.

Yep, everyone seems to feel the same way that its beneficial to tackle language analysis straight after reading it in reading time. Out of the last 2, i would pick the one that you could wrap up quickest without making it sound like you ran out of time and do it last, just for the unlucky chance that you have 5 minutes left and you're not finished.

I have never tried this before, but wouldn't you want to annotate the article while reading at the same time?
I feel like I'd have to do that to keep my ideas flowing, but that's just me :)

You get kicked out for annotating while reading time... even if it's with your fingernail.

Nah, i think it's better to get an overview of the piece first then annotate

during reading time glance over the topics of the text response and context and figure out which of your "bank" of ideas you will apply. spend the rest reading through the language analysis then do that one first

i think thats the most logical approach

i did the ones i memorised first, ie, context and then text response, after i regurgitated my essay i moved onto language analysis.

i Would do:
 1-language analysis
2-text response
3-Context
Ancient Persian Proverb; " I Wept because i had no Shoes, until i saw a man with no feet!"

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me -- and there was no one left to speak for me.

I do them on order, mostly to get Text response and Context out of the way, because they are the most demanding, and require more thought. Language analysis is very math/sciency which makes it the easiest part of the exam. The equation: Find persuasive technique + Comment on the impact on the reader + link to authuor's contention = success.

Did you find that memorising helped you with your essay? How do you adjust to the prompt?

yeah the pieces i memorised got like 10/10 and 9/10 in the exam (context and text respectively), language analysis was my weak part.

I memorised ALOT of essays so the prompt i got was very very similar to one of the ones i memorised, so i just rewrote it. Started memorising at the start of the year and had literally memorised like 50 different topics by the end of the year

What do you do during reading time then?
If you read the article then won't you have to waste time reading it again? ... two essays later.
