At school there is this chick who moved here from france earlier on in the year.
I thought that she was doing french as first language for some reasone then i asked her the other day and she said second language...
How does this happen? she is doing french as second language 3/4 in yr 11 and esl next yr....
And she said that the french oral was the easiest thing she has done :(

What a fail system... anyone else agree?

The failure here isn't the system itself but the failure of not being able to track down that she should be doing first language.

this happens all the time for chinese... even though there is 3 categories FL/SLA AND SL there is still so much corruption.

I had friends at my school last year having done high school in china and came here to do SLA, it happens too much.

Just checked and this is actually the case. I guess in this situation it actually does show that the system is flawed :p

Ughh. Get over yourselves. If she does french SL then she's doing English first language, in which she has a disadvantage because English is her second language. As for those complaining about multilingual people getting an 'easy' 50, how dare they succeed in their education because they are more knowledgeable than us. It's not as if the purpose of assessment is to determine the most intelligent/knowledgeable students.

I dont like how there's a girl at my school in yr 11 who was doing 3/4 japanese SL this year but then she somehow dropped out of it because she went on exchange to Japan - so next year she'll be joining my Jap class next year so we're all screwed + the fact that her mum is Japanese :(
2011 : English | Accounting | MM CAS | Further | Japanese | MUEP Japanese
2012 : BA(Japanese&Chinese)/BComm @ Monash Clayton

There isn't.

You people do know having a pro person in your class actually helps scale your score right? Unless you're gunning for that top spot

Forgive me for asking a stupid question but why exactly should people not be rewarded for being successful in their study of languages?
