So lately there has been some questions relating practise exams.

I have compiled 7 English Practice Exams for you all.  :D

The Practice Exams target Look Both Ways (Sarah Watt) as well as Identity and Belonging (Context). These are accompanied by a language analysis task.

You can download the Practice Exams below.

Cheers.

:D Yep! I'm 100% doing this on the exam, regardless how crap the topic is.

Are the exams useful?
well im going to school for the next 4 days until the exam, so theyll be sick for language analysis :D
however im doing maestro for text resp. and enc. conflict for context.

So yea they were, thanks for that Cambridge (im guessing cambridge is where you wanna end up haha?)

Well I've been at the library every day of this week (my timetable has 50% spares now) and I've basically just been doing roughly 2 or 3 essays a day. When I finish one, I move straight onto the next, then when I finish the second one.. I proofread the first. There's no point in proofreading straight after you finish an essay... nothing will come to mind.

If I have time, I'd also read over some notes that I've compiled all year. Spend a bit of time reading the newspaper; looking out for persuasion and getting an idea of the issues and their contexts at this point in time.

Then, if time permits, I would read over sample essays and get my head around the expected level of writing. Read over some of my own pieces of writing and yeah you get the point. :D I would also spend a bit of time practising timed introductions/body paragraphs/conclusions... just doing one-off paragraphs and seeing how I fare.

Lucky you don't have spesh the day after and can spend all your time on english :P

that's pretty much similar to what i was doing a couple of weeks ago... but recently got hit with a virus and was out for 5 days until today, worst thing that could possibly happen i think ):
i just cbf context =="

text response? Yea no dramas its basically answering a question in 800 odd words lol.
lang analysis? Systematic and so repetitious, almost impossible to not know what to do.
but the bad boy context... oh how i hate you.

yea.. weighted by pure bullshit.

you know when you're in a test, and it's not that you can't do it, because you can... it's just the whole OMG I DONT WANNA BE HERE! thing.
That's how i feel. And im writing creative too, so its freaking difficult to just think of a magical story and mould it to fit the prompt.

Just write down the lyrics to a song that somehow relates to the prompt.

I know 99.95 will disagree... but context IS a bitch. I despise it with a passion... BUT I just try to remember that these essays are all equally weighted..

Its easier to score higher on a text response than on context according to 2009

Kotza.. this is what I wrote on the other thread (don't know if you saw it):

Kotza...

Read through some of the TSFX sample essays that I posted a thread about..

For the 2 context SACs this year, I did one as an opinion piece and one as a speech. Both were not high A+ standard... I wasn't happy with them at all. Not even the slightest.

So for the past week or two, I've practised doing expository essays. I'm not sure if they fit more in the expository or the persuasive side of essay writing... but the point is, these are the ONLY essay-form context pieces I have done all year... and I can already sense that I'll get better marks for these kind of pieces.

So I highly suggest you take up an essay format of context writing if you're struggling to flesh out your ideas in creative writing.. essays have a given structure, and you can be far more explicit and clear with your point of view. Now is the time to start practising essays if you haven't already started... but I guess we have been taught essay writing from year 7.. so yeah, it shouldn't be hard to pick up on it.

And besides, the textual reference can appear far more explicit (if that is what you are aiming for).
ahhh i'm not too sure if i remember seeing that one.
I do most definitely agree with you though. However i will be doing an essay format piece for context, even though it is creative.
It's much similar to the 2008 sample one on Fly Away Peter... as i am commenting upon my character's predicament in the third person, thus flowing like an essay.

Too many errors can arise if you decide to write an ACTUAL story.
