I don't know what happened though. There was a period where I was actually good at English. Teachers would use my work as samples and stuff. Now I just suck at it.
The fact that it has nothing to do with English anymore probably has a lot to do with it.
I reckon a 3 hour spelling test would be more fun than the English exam, despite the fact that my spelling has progressively gotten worse as I've gotten older.
Why can't we have grammar, punctuation and spelling tests for English- I can guarantee you that a LOT of year 12s need it. Just go on Facebook and see for yourself. "Your definately gay, youse getting drunk?, you're pretty, your discusting" and I can't think of anymore right at this moment. If I still had Facebook I would take probably hours to type up all the mistakes people make. Lol I'm not complaining about people who use abbreviations and no capital letters, it is the internet after all. But those grammatical mistakes and spelling mistakes which are definitely NOT typos are just... *cringe*.
Should have done EngLang. You can write a whole essay about this, plus morons posting racist and sexist stuff.
Apparently, research shows that the vast majority of teenagers are able to switch between 'teenspeak' and 'textspeak' to a more formal register if required.
However I totally agree, there needs to be a much greater emphasis on spelling and grammar in schools. It is a disgrace.
Nice one VCAA.
Why don't they just make English back to basics. That would give people much better life skills than 'Writing in Context' and discussing the idea that ‘to be true to yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else
is the greatest achievement.’
