i think a more effective use of time is to read the question twice, do workings once, then re-read the question. sometimes, i also use a different method if possible to check answers.

if time is available(as usually is) at the end then go through again...

but i end up making many silly mistakes if i say to myself "you will do it again later" or "check it later" and i rush through...then when i come back  i don't necessarily pick up the mistakes...
