did we have to label the skull or just identify differences and explain?

Would like to know the answer to this question aswell. The one about the australopithecus and the gorilla.

Also for the fish question, was it the sequencing of the mtDNA or the sequencing of the cox gene on the mtDNA :S?

Actually you wouldn't as the rest of the state would get that right as well :P

doubt it, according to past VCAAs, half the state don't know what uracil is...

but get your point. its free marks all the same though (ego boost)

i dont think we had to label anything... just explain it in the question (parabolic/rectangular, canine size, etc.)

It made out like you just had to state the differences and not pick which skull was which

Weirdly phrased. Are Australopithecine molars smaller than gorilla molars? Please say they are. My google search has found nothing conclusive.

Yeh I did the same as you onerealsmartass. I wrote like "Shape of the jaw. Australopithecus has a more parabolic shape than the shape of the jaw of gorillas"

I'm pretty sure the molars of australopithecus were larger. Australopithecus had smaller canines and larger molars

I said:

"Jaw X/Y (i forgot which one was which) has larger molars than Jaw Y/X"
"Jaw X/Y is rectangular, whilst Jaw Y/X is parabolic"
"Jaw (the one that was parabolic) was that of Australopithecus"

So we had to state which one was the gorilla and australopithecus?

From memory, the question was something along the lines of "Describe the features which will enable you to distinguish which jaw is that of an Australopithecus or Gorilla"

I don't think you had to state which one was which, but I did so anyway for good measure
