VN new look...

so, i was on IRC and the convo was about how VN looks, and well these are my ideas.
1. Redesign the main page, so the notes on the left are cleaned up and then possibly then have an area advertising upcoming lectures for subjects.(mainly before mid year and end of year exams)
2. Maybe the forum needs a new colour look to it.
3. i notice every VCE resource out there is directed at young people, there isnt much focused towards adults who are returning to study to do their VCE....

How would all the budding web designers out there feel if I offered up a $1,500 cash prize to fully rehaul the entire VN site? As in a contest to redesign the site the best? I mean EVERYTHING, notes system, forum integration (keep SMF but give a pretty skin and integrate w/ notes better) as well as other stuff you feel may have you win?

It might be a bit mean though to have more than one person pour their hard work into doing that and only have one winner and they don't get anything for such effort. Perhaps participants can skeleton their ideas in a bid proposal and then VN'ers can vote for it and if you win you get the opportunity to create what you describe and if it gets done you get paid? I'm not looking to screw anyone, I won't turn around and go "you didn't do this tiny little thing therefore I'm not paying you!!!" but obviously I don't want to pay that much money for a below-par or unfinished job.

Maybe I should just hire a professional firm? Anyway, $1.5k is roughly the budget I have to work with!

is anyone on this site doing a web design / it course?

don't mind the current one its simple and quick... but would be cool if it was upgraded, although if it does hopefully it doesn't add lots of lag...

I'd be happy to help draft a contract if anybody's genuinely worried about this (possibly with the help of lynt.br and any other law students here)

i think it is ok, but the notes need to be reorganized so they are more accessible, also i noticed enwiabe made spesh solutions, need a clear link for stuff like that. just like on itute.

ahh yeah i see, yeah i mean the "look" isn't that bad, but i guess the accessibility stuff needs a bit of redesigning.

I think it works pretty well the way it is also, if it isnt broken dont fix it (wish the guys who dreamed up miki used that approach)

I dont think you can really "design" the accessibility stuff, i think its more built into the forum software that we use here

Hmm, I can do templates, but skim SMF? Not so sure :S

I've done some basic php/sql stuff too.

But yah html/css I'm pretty good in, not sure how to skin SMF though.
