I need Chem help =D Lots and lots of gaps in my knowledge =X

From STAV 2008

1. What does atomization mean? How is C(s) --> C(g) the atomization of C?

2. How does ammonium salt generate H+ ions?
2009
~ Methods (Non-CAS) [48 --> 49.4]

2010
~ Spesh [50 --> 51.6]
~ Physics [50 --> 50]
~ Chem [43 --> 46.5]
~ English [46 --> 46.2]
~ UMEP Maths [5.0]

2010 ATAR: 99.90

1. atomisation is pretty much just separating atoms, so making a solid clumped together pile of atoms as C(s) into the free moving more spaced gas particles.

2. Ammonium ion in the salt NH4+ reacts to form NH3 and H+

Is the chemical reaction you are referring to:
NH4+ + OH- <--> NH3 + H2O ?

Nah I think its NH4+ + H2O <--> NH3 + H3O+

Sorry didn't see this,

I was referring to any reaction in general where NH4+ can act as an acid to donate an H+ ion.
So yes, that reaction is correct with NH4+ + OH-

ok another qusetion

VCAA 2008, the qusetion where it asks why the mass of methanol produced by the fuel clel is less than expected

Can I say "Assumption of previous part incorrect: Not all the current passing through the fuel cell is used to produce methanol" It wasn't oneo f the answers in the assessor's report, and I can't see anything ruling this answer out

That Atomization Question. Reminds me too much about Vectors.  :D

I dunno.  Borderline.  If some of the current wasn't used to produce methanol then you are implying one of two things:
-Current lost to heat (my stupid answer :P)  which is wrong
-Current caused other reactions to occur, which they define as 'side reactions' which would be right.

Probably lose the mark for not being clear enough, but I dunno, it really depends on the examiner with these answers that aren't printed in the report.

Anyone find this paper really easy?  I pray Thursday is like this...

It said it in the paragraph underneath.  Doesn't apply to the context of this fuel cell or something.

And maybe it was sorta long, but very doable.  I don't mind if it goes ages as long as nothing stumps me haha...

I saw that too but i don't understand y it doesn't apply to the contxt of this fuel cell

i need help for chem too:

*How do you know if the product from a chemical reaction is a salt from looking at the equation
*How do you determine if a precipitate is formed when two aqueous solutions are reacted together
*I dont get the concept that the more reactive metal will replace a less reactive metal ion in a solution
*2KCL + Ag2SO4 ---->  K2SO4 +2AGCL , if the precipitate in this reaction was filtered what would the compound of teh residue caught in filter paper? and what would be in the filtrate?

:)
ill karma you

Don't quote me on this, but I thought that fuel cells just go chemical > electrical energy, so they shouldn't produce heat.

=/ but its only 60-75%ish conversion arte from chemical to electrical, so there has to be waste heat

Yeah, but they are saying the ~30% loss is not due to heat, but because methanol reacted in a different reaction or evaporated.

We need Mao to clarify haha...
