eng+lit+spesh?

Could anyone who is doing/has done 3/4 of
1/ eng, lit, spesh
2/ lots of humanities+ spesh
or 3/ lots of humanities subjects,

please tell me what it's like and if it's too much work? My subject selections atm for next year are English, Literature, Chemistry and International Studies... I'm doing Methods 3/4 atm and realised it's actually a lot easier for me to do 293849384 practise papers for maths rather than write essays, so I'm considering Specialist Maths instead of English. Thoughts?

Hi,

It is indeed rare to find people in your situation who enjoy both maths and english. I'm very much the same. They are application based subjects, as opposed to rote-learning like IS. Definitely drop the IS for Spec or one of the englishes. Do you do two 3/4s in Year 11?

I'm doing next year (Year 12):

English 3/4
Lit 3/4
Chem 3/4
Spec 3/4
Uni Maths

Year 11:
Methods 3/4

Year 12:
English 3/4 Latin 3/4 Specialist 3/4 Chem 3/4 Uni Maths

Yep I'm also doing Chinese 3/4 as well this year, and my school only lets us do four subjects next year if we've already done two. You're doing Latin 3/4 this year? frickkkk o.o that's intense
I'm actually really looking forward to IS, have to do chem and love lit so there's only one spot left for either English or Spesh :P

This year (Year 12) I've done Methods and Physics; I'm not a mathsy type of person so it generally takes me a while to learn new concepts, however i don't mind churning through a few praccy exams. Last year I did Revs, loved it; perfect combination of memory and application for mine. Thus I clearly enjoy more humanities based subjects, this year I do English, Lit and French, and didn't find it too much work at all. They all help one another, and given I enjoyed Lit and English particularly didn't really mind studying for them.

I'm doing English, Literature and Specialist. Do you go to a good school? I'm not kidding that helps for English and Literature.
But I've found it alright and I'm sure you have a good work ethic so it's okay.
People tend to have this hype but its not a big deal.
I quit French only because we were sharing with year 11s and I thought it wasn't worth it for me to have do put extra work on myself. If the French class was a proper year 12 one then I would have kept it.

@foley and iffets12345, do you guys get your teachers to look over practise essays and what not? maths is so handy in that the solutions are there and pretty much definite...

and my school has wonderful lit teachers but a whole spectrum of english teachers, which is scary cos I don't want to end up with a dud. the thought of studying nine texts altogether is also slightly daunting... but if it really isn't that big of a deal, that's good to know :)

well if ur school doesnt have dodgy politics, get ur lit teacher to mark ur essays.
My english teacher always marks heaps of my essays, but my lit teacher was a bit more unorganised and lazy.
I got there in the end though I did throw the Literature exam.

Don't forget, people on VN can mark your essays for you

It really just depends on what kind of person you are.  I agree that doing lots of practice papers is probably "easier" in that it's less "intense", but at the same time I just felt much more rewarded by writing a billion essays.

I started the year doing these three subjects, but I dropped spesh pretty quickly. It's definitely manageable, I was/am just not motivated!

If you enjoy those subjects, just go for it.

I did these subjects all in the same year. It's very manageable. If you are passionate for Englishes and more importantly maths (=P), then you should find it no trouble to do this combination and perform exceedingly well.

My suggestion would be to just pick Spesh up and continue with English ... though I am biased toward more subjects rather than less..

This advice stands unless, of course, you will become stressed or overworked.

This year I did:

English
Lit
Specialist
Methods
Accounting.

At the start of the year I loved maths and english equally but after doing spec I realised how much I hated it and that start to affect my methods marks. It is quite a big work load, I'm the only person in my school who is doing lit, english, methods and spec in the same year. If you're good at maths then it shouldn't be so bad but specialist almost killed me and demotivated me for every other subject.

Had a good mix of math/sciences/languages/business studies. As long as you enjoy the subjects you take (and the teachers that take them - don't underestimate this point), there should be no major problems.

Very true. Had my Lit teacher leave after term 1, that was disastrous for my work ethic. The English teacher had to take over(part of the reason I took lit was to have an English away from him). After that simply had little desire to complete any tasks past the bare minimum. =\

yeah teachers at my school always go on about how you shouldn't pick subjects based on the teacher... but I have a very good chance of getting the besst maths teacher for spesh and also a very good chance for getting horrible english teachers.

it's really encouraging to see so many people doing all these subjects actually, makes me feel like I should be able to manage it either way! hopefully...

Well, get a tutor if you want to do English, no  joke. The more important thing about English teachers is their ability to mark you I reckon, you can teach yourself if you try.
It's really quite normal LOL. Kind of disappointing to think you're not "special" hahahahaha. I kid.
