I reckon you should try to finish the mulitple choice within 30 minutes
I usually do that first to warm-up, but everyone works differently :)
Remember, remember the 5th of November

2010 - MM CAS (47) - Cisco 1+2 (pass :P)
2011 - Eng - Phys - Chem - Spesh - Latin - UMAT
ATAR - 99.00+ plz... :)

Feel free to PM me for anything :D

I agree with doing 30 mins for multiple choice however i leave it towards the end because if you run out of time (i am speculating that the 2010 exam 2 is going to be difficult and time consuming) you can just guess the last few MC however if you run out and have not done some short answers you are stuffed. Thats how i see it anyways. Also spend your reading time going through the short answers as the MC usually require less thought in how to tackle them.

Hope this helps

This would probably be my own personal plan for the whole exam. First 10 min of reading time, look over the extended response section and in your mind, decided on the Q's that look easy to you and you may do first and the ones you may leave till later on. Then in the last 5 min of reading time, quickly skim over the multiple choice. Once writing time begins, I'd spend 30-35min on the MCQ as Watchman said, just to get it out of the way while its fresh in your mind from reading time. After you've completed that section, do the questions in the extended response that looked easy to you in the reading time and leave the harder Q's till later. If you're spending too much time figuring out a Q, just move on the next easiest question. That way, you save yourself suffering from any panic attacks or anxiety.

Personally I just spend my reading time on the mc questions. I don't even really look at the extended response. This way I finish the mc really quickly and don't feel stressed about time in the extended response section.

First 25 minutes for multiple choice (35 if it was Spesh)
Rest for Extended Response

Just do things chronologically =/

Yes.

And I do extended response first. That way you can get it done and milk the exam for its maximum marks if it turns out to be difficult.

During reading time: skim through all of MCQ and decide which ones take less than 30 secs to do, the others, if they require thinking, leave them till the end. then have a look at extended response, make your decision, and start from there. :)

=X my thinking is different from yours. I lose 2-3 marks on multiple choice if I leave it to rush at the end, whereas I get 22/22 on it if I do it at the start. I do all my exams on the assumption that 1.) I can do every question 2.) I will finish on time 3.) the only marks I lose will be careless.

Do what ever you can to maximise your marks

Start with the questions youre most confident with for SA imo just grab marks where you can. According to tsfx most people dont finish... apparently

I 100% agree.  I have gone back to doing MC first, and I've gotten better at it again.  Never lose more than 2 marks anymore.  MC cannot be rushed.  The questions require careful reading otherwise it is likely you will fall into VCAA's little traps.

I personally prefer kyzoo's methods too, if you'll pardon the pun  :P

Definitely a good idea to look through the extended response questions and flag challenging looking ones before hand.

Also, plan your time. The exam's 120 minutes. There's 80 marks. Hence try to average 1.5 minutes per mark. By that, the multiple choice should take 33 minutes. Hence try to get it done in significantly less time so your head is a LONG way above water.
