What do you think this years exam will focus on?

Fitness components and testing were poorly done according last years assessors report. Guessing there's going to be a bit on that.

Having such a big exam (out of around the 120 mark), they can pretty much cover everything without having to overload on a specific area of study.

Sure there will definitely be questions on Fitness components and testing, but not at the expense of other topics. If you go through the previous years exams, the total marks are usually pretty similiar when comparing the areas of study and how many marks for each area.
2009 - Further Maths (42)
2010 - Chemistry, Methods, English, Business Management and PE

ATAR aim = 85 (add on the SEAS: Living in a Rural Area would give around 90)

The PE multiple choice questions ALWAYS contain 2 or 3 ambiguous questions I'm afraid. Only worth one mark though so if in doubt, it's too costly to get bogged down on them. Pick C everytime and move onto the short answer where the real marks are ;)

Expect sports psychology and legal/illegal ergogenic aids to pop up this year. These did not appear in last year's exam in any way, shape or form so brush up your skills on these areas because they can be a bit ambiguous.

It is and how it relates to certain drugs. Such as beta blockers reducing the shakes of a person such as an athlete in archery. You then say that this does bot set a good example for kids or a level playing field but is influenced by win at all costs mentality or the pressure from a coach to use illegal aids to win.
A legal aid however would be the use of no-doz pills in AFL.

what do we need to know about re-hydration/hydration and sports drinks??

what these are
hypotonic - quickest hydration
isotonic - best for hydrating and replacing CHO/electrolytes
hypertonic - slow hydration but high CHO/electrolytes

and when to use them, ex. hypertonic is best for post-exercise to replace lost CHO/electrolytes, good for CHO loading and also during extended marathons when CHO is running low.

what do we need to know about re-hydration/hydration and sports drinks??

Sports drinks
Hypotonic - least carbs, fastest absorption, low osmality (preferred to replenish lost fuels and electrolytes - post excercise)
Hypertonic - lots of carbs, slow absorption, high osmality (usally drank in endurance event with an isotonic drink)
Isotonic - in the middle, somehow like water, but with added carbs

Don't ever do VCE without Year 11 and missing one Sem of Year 12. Believe me its quite a pain.

It depends on the intensity and duration of excercise.

As a general rule, you should avoid dehydration because 1% of fluid loss already has a significant contribution to performance being decreased due to neuro functions become inhibited and less plasma volume in blood.

Still going on with sports drinks...
Say an AFL player had just finished a game, what would they drink?

Hypertonic if you aren't sure, especially for endurance events, has the highest amount of carbohydrates 8g.
For AFL seeing as it isn't as long, you'd say hypotonic or isotonic, because the window of opportunity is short post exercise, requiring carbohydrates fast.

Just think of it like what type of carbohydrates should be consumed immediately after an event... high gi.
