I don't understand how some parents could honestly be as unfair and unsupportive. Yes they've probably made a number of sacrifices to put you in the best possible position to succeed academically but surely the lack of emotional support nullifies any gains you guys WOULD get from the tutors and all that? :-\ Yeah they can be disappointed but surely if they see the amount of effort you've put in over the last 12 (more like 24?) months and realised it's the best you can do? Not attacking any of you but I dunno, can't say I can comprehend it

yeah told my parents, they took it pretty well or were just too scared to say anything that would piss me off in my sensitive stage.
Would have raged back.

My typical conversation with Father after an exam
Dad: How'd your exam go? You did good?
Me: Did okay.
Dad: So what did you get?
Me: Huh
Dad: A+?
Me: Dad I just did the exam, I don't know what I got yet.
Dad: So you failed?

I'm really grateful of how my dad has been supportive of me throughout this exam period. Although he'd like me to get a good ATAR, he just wants me to go out there, remain calm as I can and be the best that I can be. Even after todays' exam, where things didn't go as well as I would have liked, he kept on telling me "I know you tried your best out there and it isn't easy. You've got two exams left so go out there without fear of being a failure to your own expectations as well as those of your parents. Treasure the things that last for a lifetime, such as you friendships, instead of an ATAR score that only lasts a year".

At times throughout this yr, I've almost become obsessed with getting an ATAR of 95+ that I've havent permitted the idea that things sometimes do not work out. My dad made me remember that it isn't the be all and end all if you don't get the results you want.

So kids, I say this to you: Go out there and be the best you can be. Go out there and keep a clear mind, don't think about the fear of failure as it will adversely affect your performance. Don't take notice of what others want of you or expect of you because at the end of that day, you're the one who's sitting the exams, your the one who can judge how difficult it and you're who can only be truely satisfied with your own effort. This year has been all about YOU and the hard slog you've put in, not about those who make make ill-informed judgements who havent went through the stressful process. Sure, we all want to please our parents and want the best for ourselves but remember, they will ultimately be there to share all the joyous and tough times you have had and provide you support. Don't let an ATAR score dictate who you are. There's more to life than simply striving for academic excellence. I hope you all realise this.

i know how you feel about that haha all i wanted to do was beat my sister who got 95.7 and consequently get into my commerce course at melbs which needed around 95ish to get in. my rents were cool with everything, they didnt really care about it, whenever i stressed they were like "shut up, we all know you will beat your sister"...but that would kind of make me >_< because of doubt and other shit etc lol but yeah, in the end i got what i wanted and really, a week later i couldnt give a shit about something ive been worrying about all year.
when you're at uni you will realise how awesome and laid back it is :) no social, personal and parental pressure to do well :)

I'm so glad my parents don't push me, The lucky few of an asian with no tight ass parents.
I told them I wasn't going to study for one of my subjects and they said okay that's your choice LOL.
and today as soon as I saw my dad I was like "That was the hardest exam I've ever done, I left so much shit out"
and then he told me not to look at forums when I got home cause it'll made me sad.
And... here I am.

yeah my parents are like that too
they knew i suck at methods.. so they dont push me in it (i dont think they expect high stuff of me LOL)
mum watched me cry after my exam yesterday though lol, shes just like ah well you did ur best.

no he's right, but melbourne uni sent out an email saying that students should judge their preferences from the 08 requirement not 09, so 85 instead of 89.9

im disappointed because i dont know if i got my 40 for english, and worst case scenario for chemistry.... i dunno im just super stressed :(

My parents' position has always been that they'd be happy with whatever mark I get, so long as they know that I worked my hardest for that mark. Since they know that I've done my utmost for VCE, they wouldn't be dissapointed with me whatever I got.

Having said that, in regards to this exam, my father is a Methods teacher, so it was pretty much unavoidable that we'd go through the exam in detail. So far as I know, I only lost one mark for sure, so he wasn't too upset with that.
