A - The question asked for equipment, not the entire software package to compare passwords. Swipe could be used as the equipment with the software solution using it to filter out bad passwords, much in the same way that your keyboard is linked to your operating system.
B - I agree with you for different reasons. I know this afternoon I've been saying encryption might be the answer, but in reading the question again this isn't 'equipment' - it's software.
C - How do you know their accessing a password-protected file? What if it's a file they're allowed to access? Possible, but absurd.
D - I agree with you here - possible but an incredibly long shot.

Edit: I have an exam tomorrow (Revs) so I'm retiring from this date. I think any of them could have been right, you never know what the VCAA is saying. This question should be taken out from the marking.

An anti-virus looks for virus signatures/malicious behaviour to seek a threat out and destroy it.

Who said that the file was accessed by a person? It could have been a virus. Some virus scanners scan every file accessed by computer applications, viruses included.

The issue is that the question asks too much and the answers cannot completely match the question. If the phase "password-protected" was to be removed then virus protection could very well be the answer.

This was my reason for jumping to D in the end. BUT, i still think D is not a good enough answer, and, I'm positive it's not C.

Gah.. imagine if you were the examiner writing this question with his sole intention being 'hoho, I bet they don't know people can access password-protected files from another computer.'
It looks a lot like anti-virus software to me..
My mum told me it would be D, and she knows jack shit about software :P

Did ANYONE choose D? :|

I chose d. But it's software, the question asks for equipment. See B and D are equipment.

And it's supposed to be =(H6-B6), to find the height growth. (End growth minus original growth)

A conversation with my mate on facebook:

Quote
Ostensibly the best option was just antivirus software, 'cause it could potentially be modified to notice alterations not performed by the user. CCTV would only really work if they were physically there, which a good thief wouldn't be.
Weird question though.
I assume a keyboard swipe is like one of those credit card machines, but there's a swipe thing built into the keyboard to function as a password protect. I *think*.

He chose D.

"Let's hope the examiner's report gets it right too! Last year, they didn't.
This was a bit too easy for the sharp end of the examination, I thought."

I wish he wouldn't be so cocky...
