so in 2007 if you got 35 you got 45 scaled, 2008 you got 44 and 2009 you got 43. is it some sort of a trend of scaling less and less?

not necessarily - otherwise we'll eventually see a Spesh 50 stay at 50 - and then there'll be no incentive to take Spesh over methods (other than enjoyment).

It's not possible for Spesh scaling to be the same as Methods.
It's one of their policies. The gist of it is for a certain raw score the Methods scaled score must be greater than the Further scaled score; and the Specialist scaled score must be greater than the Methods scaled score.

So I think Spesh will always scale over 50 :P

But to address your original question: we can't really be sure. A few reasons than it may not continue in the downward trend - it has already decreased significantly over the past few years and is approaching the scaling for Methods, and; have more weak students (who drain scaling) actually picked Spesh up? I don't think so, but obviously this is from the very small population which I know of personally. But yeah, we'll just have to wait will Dec 11 or 12 to see. (Scaling report / aggregate tables are released a couple of days before results.)

On a side note, Methods used to scale above 50
http://www.vtac.edu.au/pdf/stats/2001-2002/section-H.pdf

A 50 scaled to 51 in that year. (And Spec used to scale to 55 consistently each year)

Although Spesh scaling does go down, if you plug your SS into atarcalc then you will see that:
In '08 Methods: 35->42, Spesh: 35->44
In '09 Methods: 35->41, Spesh: 35->43

Although they have both gone down, the overall ATAR score (with a 35 in my subjects that haven't changed scaling over time)
In '08: 91.00
In '09: 91.35

So although they have both gone down equating to a loss of 2 aggregate, the overall ATAR has risen, so does it really matter that Spesh goes down?
