We need to choose our VCE subjects by next week... help please

Hi, im jack ingram and I go to Camberwell Grammar School... i found this website when researching vce subjects on google
I am in year 10 and I need to choose my vce subjects for next year by next week
We have to do six subjects.... either five unit 1s or one unit 3
or we can do no unit 1s and one unit 3
then we do five unit 3s in year 12
I am unsure which option to take ... any advice??


currently, I am a pretty good student I think..... I generally get A's or A+'s in every subject
I would like to be a doctor

My subjects I've chosen with dad so far are english and mathematics methods.....
can anyone put in any thoughts please

6 unit 3's is a bad idea. Take 5 unit 1's and 1 unit 3 as a general rule, this allows the smoothest transition

For some reason that doesn't sound right,

I would suggest doing:

Year 11:
Unit 3/4 subject 1
Unit 3/4 subject 2
Unit 3/4 subject 3
Unit 1/2 subject 4
Unit 1/2 subject 5
Unit 1/2 subject 6

Year 12:
Unit 3/4 subject 4
Unit 3/4 subject 5
Unit 3/4 subject 6

OR

Year 11:
Unit 3/4 subject 1
Unit 3/4 subject 2
Unit 1/2 subject 3
Unit 1/2 subject 4
Unit 1/2 subject 5
Unit 1/2 subject 6

Year 12:
Unit 3/4 subject 3
Unit 3/4 subject 4
Unit 3/4 subject 5
Unit 3/4 subject 6

Our school made us do 7 subjects all up in year 12. I did 5 unit 1+2s and 2 unit 3+4s. That year was a bitch for me, but year 12 (3 3+4s and 1 uni subject) was soooooooo much fun.

In conclusion, do AT LEAST one unit 3+4 that YOU LIKE in year 11. It'll pay off, trust me.

which subjects should i do?

 1]To be a doctor you need to do [an] English, Maths Methods and Chemistry

 2]If Maths/science is your passion/strength, the recommended subjects would be [an] English, Maths Methods, Specialist Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Or if you are really on the ball, you can do a 1st year Uni subject in yr12.

 3]However, you might have other interests. Check out what your school offers. Remember, to get a good ENTER you need to kick-ass in FOUR subjects [including your chosen English], so you can afford to do not so well in 2.

 4]Are you good enough at any subject listed in point 2] to do it as a 3/4 next year? If not substitute one for a subject where prior knowledge isn't so important, Psychology for example.

5] There are many strategies for ENTER optimisation. Doing high scaling subjects such as Specialist Maths and/or certain LOTEs. Or saving an easier subject, such as Psychology or Further Maths for yr12, so you've got an increased chance of getting 50.
But do get all the worthwhile advice you can on this and all other choices and remember everyone is unique so, you'll have to consider the best sequence for you.

Yeah i did that (two 3/4 subjects in year 11 and 4 in year 12) and i think it is a really good option. But if you can't do that then definately undertake a 3/4 subject early.  And as bubble sunglasses said, chemistry is a must (as well as methods and english).

pick at least 1 unit 3/4 sequence in year 11.

but dont do two or more 3/4 sequences unless you are absolutely confident.
three crap scores in year 11 does no good for your VCE, you should focus on how to do well

if you are currently doing unit 1/2 subjects, carry them into year 12 if you enjoy them enough.

but, as a golden rule of thumb: dont do maths/science without unit 1/2, it'll be like suicide. =)


so the more important question is:

what do you want to do after school? what do you enjoy?

and more so:

what subjects are you doing now? how do you like them?

maths I love when its easy, but I get really frustrated when I can't do it (it happened a fair few times because I was in the accelerated maths class)
I don't particularily hate science but I don't like it too much either but Ill do chemistry because I must for medicine

I like engaging subjects, not too boring, preferably ones which will help my future aswell!!

My sugestions: Business Management, Further Maths, Economics

very well then if you want medicine, you will need:

Biology



also, you'd probably be aware of the strong competition, so you will want good scaling subjects that you are good at, possibly
General Specialist Maths 1 [whatever its called, prelude to Specialist in year 12]


if you are pursuing this path, you will need to do well in year 11 for your subjects. foundation knowledge is very important for these subjects.
