What exactly are they. Do they occur in a centralised or decentralised system?
Thanks :D ;) :)

Its just a general term which groups together Collective agreements (Employer vs Employees / Employer Association vs Union) and Individual Contracts (Employer vs Employees). It is under a decentralised wage system

Remember that Enterpise Bargaining only occurs under decentralised, so it only covers Collective Agreements, not AWAs (they were abolished)

Points to consider when talking about EBA's
-Collective agreements (approved by FWA)
-Individual contracts
-Modern award = safety net
-Productivity for wage/employment condition trade offs

As long as you address the difference between centralised and decentralised (or whatever the question is asking), then it is not really essential to talk about EBA's (but maybe talk about the 'bargaining period')

AWAs were, to be frank, crap. It hindered LSOs in their employment cycle as all employees in the organisation were required one-on-one agreements. You can imagine that HRM would be peeved to the point where they'd become cynical, sick of bargaining and would offer ridiculous packages just to get people to shut up - or could even work the other way; sick of bargaining and offering ridiculously crap packages to employees because both the employers and staff want something "awesome" for themselves (Employers aren't willing to give it, and employees aren't willing to take it).

AWAs had technical benefits - organisation can pay what they want for labour and force on the spot etc.
- Reduced costs for govt.
- Gave power to organisations to reward productivity gains.

Modern awards only apply as safety nets to those collective and individual agreements, they are not a part of enterprise BARGAINING agreements.
