Lolz, I guess we can't do this properly because everyone forms biases... We need a Vic Uni student... Odette? :D
This thread is largely off topic, only seen like 4 useful posts :(
(im aware this is hypocritical)

Reasons I think I'd choose UoM because...
1. Location
2. The variety of subjects available
3. The reputation
4. I like the atmosphere there
5. High possiblity of getting a good job after graduating

I guess it really depends on what area of commerce you want to specialise in, the location, and the likelihood of you actually getting a good job after graduating.

Don't get me wrong Monash is a great University, but due to it's location, I probably wouldn't consider attending the University.

I think I've got enough voters. So the results can be seen, Melbourne defeats Monash 2-1.

I'll give myself another day to sleep over it though...

Uni Melbourne :)

Reason?
I'm going :P

Well done mate. Good start for your career :)  In my opinion gta (I wish I knew you're real name :( ) the reputation [of UoM] will certainly catch the eyes of employers. You will have  many opportunities to advance your career and many investment banks easily hire interns from there as well. I mean the $6000 scholarships is alright I guess, but if you willing to sacrifice (on average) higher salaries then thats just stupid :P

Then again, it's all up to you. :) Mind you, Monash is still quite a reputable uni [apart of group of 8 and accredited by EQUIS but eh lol] it's just that UoM offers so much more. :)

there wouldn't be much difference since both are very good unis and commerce is quite a basic staple , but i think melb uni is preferable due to its reputation and opportunities for further study down the road. i dont know of anyone who got the marks to go to melb uni for commerce but went to monash (except those people doing double degrees).

I had a guaranteed CSP place @ UoM, and I chose Monash.

I'd say Melbourne, just because I feel it's generally a more recognised course and I think their graduates earn something like 5k more than average once they leave (don't quote me on that).

However I'll most likely end up at Monash, which I also really like. They're both great courses!
Ooo, are you going to do straight commerce, or are you going to do a double degree (your enter's high enough)? I'll probably see you there.

I think just straight commerce, nothing else has really caught my eye.

How bout you??

I'm gonna do straight commerce as well. I looked into Arts (Global) / Commerce and plain Arts/Commerce as well, but Commerce seems to fit all my needs. While I liked the preparation for exchange in arts global, I couldn't find enough units in the international studies list that I liked. And they still haven't replied to my email, so I'm just gonna leave arts out.

Wow, kinda surprised at the amount of people in here who would choose Melbs over monash in a heartbeat.

A degree is just a degree, does it rly matter THAT much which uni u go to? If (in the eyes of an employer) a monash degree doesnt compare to a Melbourne one then where do say a Deakin and Latrobe one will sit? lol. Despite what's been said I dont rly think that someone who does commerce at Melbourne Uni will have a more successful career and be provided with A LOT more opportunies (as some of u make it sound) than someone who graduated with a bachelor of commerce from monash. They both provide excellent courses. I doubt you'll be disadvantaged either way. I guess in reality it all comes down to the amount of hard work and effort u put into the subject. Not which uni u choose. - but that's just my opinion.

Suppose hypothetically that the quality of teaching at Uni A and Uni B for a Bachelor of Commerce is exactly the same. The only difference is that Uni A is just way more selective and consequently the median ENTER of their incoming class is much higher than that of Uni B.

You have the ENTER to get into Uni A and Uni B. Which do you choose? I would choose uni A.

This is probably the best reason provided so far.

Listening to all my relatives remind me of how long the travel time to Monash is makes me wish I had a high enough enter. :(
