Doing Legal in 2011. What's the study design like? Is it going to be harder to get a 50? Are the exams changing much?

I'm doing Legal Studies next year as well. According to my teacher, it's only going to be minor changes to the current study design.

http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vce/studies/legalstudies/legalstudiessd-2011.pdf

• More detailed description of units and Areas of study
• Linking of Key Knowledge and Key Skills (note the importance of Key Skills in teaching and learning)
• Opportunity for students to engage in more detailed, in-depth learning of issues, cases etc.
• More of a case study approach desired
• Accessibility of course for students with a range of abilities and experiences

That's what it says on the VCAA website about the new study design. - http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vce/studies/futuresd.html

GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN. a subject like legal is a lot of stress come end of year. I also see that you have picked chem and methods. If you look at the timetable for this year. Legal chem and Methods is not a good combo if you want to ace all of them.

I reckon the study design for legal is eaiser next year. There's only a couple of minor changes, but most of them are omissions rather than aditions.

Huh? I thought the Legal exam is one of the last exams. I just make summary notes and look over past tests - that seemed to work for me. I ended up getting 84/90 for the Unit 1 exam - topped the year level - then again, it is Units 1/2. Are Chemistry and Methods exam near each other or something?.. :S

I guess the issue with Legal is that the subject involves a lot of reading and writing. Some questions are like mini-essays, with 10 mark questions and stuff - i.e. "Evaluate" questions.
Studyinghard is describing the VCAA timetable for 3/4 subjects. Legal studies was a day before Chemistry. http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vce/exams/timetable.html

Oh right. Has it always been like that... the Chemistry exam being the day after Legal?..

I suppose my exams next year would be pretty close together. In that case, I get what you mean.

The timetable changes each year. Forgot which year but Specialist Maths exam was the session after English....quite intense.

english is always first and the other subjects are rearranged fairly randomly. your subjects could all be done in three days (i would have great sympathy with you) or over two and a half weeks.

LOL lucky I didn't do it this year then. That would suck if it happened though. Even Latin?.. =\

My only real concern with Legal next year - is how to study for it [coming towards the exam], since the study design is changing - would students continue to use past exam papers, or would that be of no use, considering the change in the study design? :O

Although having said that, generally the first year of a change in the study design, results in an easier exam - going off other subjects.

I've been told that the changes are not too dramatic so you should be able to go off past exam papers. Besides cause its a new study design they will put out a sample exam which should have all the 'new' questions (kinda like the methods one). Just do what everyone else has advised you.    -> NOTES
VCE 2010: Eng 42 | Legal 49 | Chem 37 | MM 34 | Indo SL 33 |
ATAR: 97.45

2011: Bachelor of Arts Monash University
2012: Bachelor of Commerce?? Please!!
