I claim I got a better score than him because I did "real" subjects but we all know that's just rooted in jealousy lol. He was really strong in languages, did multiple LOTEs (spanish via distance ed if i remember) which freaked us all out

gotta love the "real" subjects, so much more interesting (unless you've got Maths Quest 11 Methods  ;) )

If it cheers you up, my mate (5 50+ scores) used facebook more than me during VCE :P

:O really? in that case....
if ya actually think about it the internet as a whole is the actual distraction. like if i didnt go on facebook, id probably end up on another site 24/7 - like this one :)
so meh, ill just keep my VN and fb but only until my scores become shockingly bad :P

rohitpi, yea, i looked through my 3/4 txtbk. pretty similar stuff to cell construction + transportation and stuff.
so thats a good thing i guess :)
i was talking about the explaining stuff to me in general. trust me, my biol teacher this yr isnt really good :(

I think using the internet is fine during VCE, unless you're spending 30 minutes on facebook after logging on to "check" whether a certain fact is true or not.

For bio, I also did the end of unit TSFX lectures, their notes were pretty good and the speaker (Mr Mac) was excellent and really intelligent.

The most important thing about summer holidays study (just to emphasise), is do not overwork yourself! Some kids I know finished the course in several subjects and were really tired (and a bit arrogant) coming onto exam period. Important not to make that mistake, especially with a 3+4. Also, summer hols are holidays, and fun and socialising is really important too to keep fresh for the new year.

My attitude to tutoring is that 'only if you need it'. As I go to MHS, I know at least 90% of the students in my cohort do tutoring for all subjects, personally, I think this is a waste of time and money (no offence to the tutors out there). I would only use the services if there is genuine struggle with a concept or subject (and a dud teacher at school). The 99.95 person discussed before only did english tutoring in yr 12 (that's it).

Notes, definitely hand written. Typing can be a pain )time-wise) and can lead to distractions (fb, games, MSN, even VN!). I never made notes for maths though, feeling that there is no point in regurgitating the textbook's already concise theory.

Internet, 1-2 hours a day on week days (before exams that is  ;) ) is fine for me and enough time to spend on MSN or check cricinfo, etc.

Those are my methods, and I have used them since yr 7 (UHS gave us too much homework -I needed a regime like this) and have worked pretty well so far! Good luck (again) and remember study+leisure+enough sleep!

(remember that I havn't finished VCE yet as well, and take advice from some of the furniture from this forum -just as I continuously do)

hmm
well tbh, im actually for tutoring. idk, school teachers (well most ive met) arent really good at catering for all their students' needs. in yr 7, i was so dumb. literally. i never got anything over 85 so off i went to tutoring the next yr and then I did so much better! :D
tutoring is only bad if you dont listen to the tutor, dont do the hw set out, its too hard/easy for you, your time would be more beneficial if you self-studied cause thats the way you like to study etc.

yea, i know how you feel about stress levels and hw overload. my twin sister goes macrob, so i can sorta compare our work with each other. but yea
VCE SOUNDS SO FRICKIN SCARY   :buck2:

i think need to copy your way of studying -
do you have a tutor
did you study in the summer holidays
for bio, do you have a notes bible too?
do you suggest trying really really hard with bio next yr even if this does mean slacking off on my math subjects?
:D

tutor - no (never), although considering one for english next year as my teacher failed badly with us this year

summer holidays - yes, but not too much, good to start the year fresh (to stop myself burning out before exams -like some of my unfortunate frineds)

bio notes - all hand written (without excessive highlighting) in a4 exercise books

slacking - personally I didn't put as much effort into bio (hence only aiming for a 40), because I felt that overdoing on one subject would jepordise my performances in 1+2s (which will all turn to 3+4s next year anyway). I put more effort into Unit 4 though as I fond there was far less things to wrote learn and more application (which I prefer). I never had Bio in my top 4 though - an early mindset.

What I also do is make sure I get at least 6 hours sleep a day, so that I feel fairly fresh for the morning periods of school. Also, I try to have as much fun in school as possible (minimal time in the library) by playing cricket or basketball, so that when I got home, I would feel less likely to get distracted.

+No facebook!  (advice from a friends who got 99.95 last year -five raw 50s). This is also confirmed by this poll I created: http://vcenotes.com/forum/index.php/topic,31960.0.html

The one of the three 99.95's at our school last year that actually made a contribution to the school, and will go the furthest in life of the three was the one who used facebook.
Was it facebook that lead to his success? No, it was the fact that he kept everything balanced, school play, girlfriend, socializing, etc. If you needed to not have facebook in order to get 99.95, I don't think you were ever going to be cut out for it :P

I feel like pulling you up on more of the stuff you posted, but I don't think it's that important :P

Best thing to do for any subject is to continuously do questions and write out definitions. I personally think notes are a waste of time, but it depends on your own learning style.
vce: english, methods, spesh, chemistry, physics, geography.

hmmm... take your point

Although, depends on what you define as 'furthest in life' and 'contribution'.

Many would argue that School captains (of our school) contribute a lot to community and are obviously extremely well balanced (the 'jack-of-all-trades') yet are well renowned as not going very 'far in life' when compared to those who are 'less balanced' (towards solely academics or solely sports or solely music)... I believe socialising is very important but many others would argue (such as the other two 99.95-ers) that there is plenty of time for that after a career path has been cemented (ie. after getting into uni) -just showing the flip-side of the argument.  :P

It's all personal choice really, whatever you think will work for you

i must agree with rohitpi.
wen the media interviews these high academic kids most of them say "you need to socialize blablablaaa... school activities blablabla"
but most of us forget that there are other kids out there who are more independent and stuff. so if they like learning that way, then seriously why not?
