I found these notes on my computer - it's not made by me. It's not that detailed - basically it's a summary of all the theory in Unit 3 (12 chapters - going off the Cambridge textbook). It's handy for revision. Personally, I didn't use it myself - may be of use to others.

Here's some other theory notes I made, prior to the Unit 4 exam.

Enjoy.

For anyone wanting the Cambridge Textbook Solutions, I've posted them in a .rar file. All of them are there, bar Chapter 17 - which is a word document (which I have already previously posted).

Another Unit 4 Revision exercise, produced by VCTA.

Note that, the last question or two doesn't have solutions to it. I don't think VCTA did it - in any case it was an easy question.

Also, the thread has been unlocked...

Feel free to post here in relation to any queries you may have about Accounting... and *hopefully* myself and other members can help you out! =p

Here's another pdf file which summarises the whole of Unit 3. It wasn't made by me. It was produced in 2007, so it's still relevant to the study design. It's pretty good in terms of content.

The Cambridge website has some podcasts on it about certain material in the course - it has Vicki Baron talking - deputy-Chief Assessor of Accounting, as well exercises and so on.

A quick note...

If any of you guys (2011 Accounting students) are planning to go any lectures during the holidays, I suggest TSFX and TSSM as good places to go. I don't have a preference as to which one to go to, both are good. They both provide Unit 3 notes and are detailed.

Links for them can be found here (TSFX) and here (TSSM). I think there is still time to book if any of you are planning to go.

Alternatively, you may not see the need to go, which is still fine. I suggest to at least go to one lecture before the Unit 3 & 4 exams, to hear someone other than your teacher - it will consolidate your knowledge.

One of things I took out of Accounting this year, was practice. In many ways Accounting, is like Maths, you just do the exercises - and the more you do, the more likely you'll get better. If anything, just have notes on the theory for each chapter - have a separate exercise book for theory notes.

Generally, there is more prac than theory on the Unit 3 & 4 exams (~60% prac, ~30% theory), though this can change each year. Theory is main area which separates the A's from the A+'s (hence, my score). The practical side of things - most students will pick up, it's the theory that gets students. Theory may only be worth 30 or so marks out of 90 on the exam, but it's very important.

Good luck Accounting students of 2011! I'm hoping and expecting you guys to better my score of 37 - all of you should at least get above 40 for Accounting with the resources here. If you are in need any assistance, ask myself or ask Sammy (sam.utute) who got 47, _avO who also got 37 or davyp3 who got 40 (and is also willing to tutor in Accounting) - those guys are willing to help out, as am I.

For a more detailed plan of what you should do over the summer holidays - follow An Accounting Guide for 2011 by Former Students made by sam.utute - it's the thread above mine. I'd strongly recommend students do it - by any chance, you'll have subjects to think about as well.

The best piece of advice I can give, is if you put in the effort in Accounting all year round, then you'll be duly rewarded at the end of it all - this goes without saying for other subjects as well. Accounting as many have said, is easy to do well in, as long as you practice and minimise your errors - which comes with practice. (The amount of times I have said practice indicates that it's important..!)

That's what I said in my first post and I stick by that.

If you finish the whole course or most of it before school starts - you'll be way ahead of your class and when the teacher is going through the coursework, it will only be reinforcing what you've learnt over the holidays - it won't be new to you, whereas other students will be playing "catch-up" so to speak. That's what I learnt from doing Accounting 3/4 this year.

That's what I also said on the Legal Studies Board.

Accounting isn't conceptually hard. Looking back this year, nothing was really that hard. You may ask, how did I only get 37 for Accounting then? good question! The only regret I have was not finishing the course early enough (mainly Unit 3), that's what I think cost me getting higher than 37. Buy study guides (i.e. Checkpoints etc) and use it throughout the year for revision before SACs and the exams. You can always improve in Accounting.

EDIT: As Sammy said, former Accounting students can add to this; it's not just mine to write up. I'll probably forget everything about Accounting, come November next year; I have my own exams to do! =D

A quick BUMP. I've re-arranged most of this thread, so the important information is on the first post. The pages in between about MUEP Accounting are irrelevant, though I don't know how to delete them - so they'll have to remain.

Might I remind students of this:

Quote
What you should do is:

- Pace yourself, don't do too much Accounting that you get bored.
- If you find yourself with nothing to do, start practice exams - it's never too early to start revising.
- Ask your teacher heaps of questions, it's the most valuable resource a student has - if you're unsure of something and your teacher doesn't know, ask here on VN.
- Practice - I can't stress the importance of this!

Practice exams and revision tasks/exercises start from about pg. 5 of this thread. If you want more, search the old threads on the Accounting Board.

How many practice exams questions should I do a day?
