Some other useful links for Accounting students:

http://pantheon.yale.edu/~as995/accounting%5Fnotes.pdf

This pdf gives a summary of the whole Accounting course - not made by me.

http://www.cambridge.edu.au/education/companion/vceaccounting/

The Cambridge website has some podcasts on it about certain material in the course - it has Vicki Baron talking - deputy-Chief Assessor of Accounting, as well exercises and so on.

If only I had this, when I did Accounting. =\

ooo If there's any iTunes/iPod users out there, there's also "The Bottomline's Podcast" which was released in September this year

The guy specifically goes through the whole VCE Accounting course (and mentions his podcasts are intended for VCE students) broken into 35 tracks ranging from 5~10 mins each.

I recommend downloading it (its free) and listening to it while sleeping on the bus/train. It's what I used to do with Japanese!
2011 : English | Accounting | MM CAS | Further | Japanese | MUEP Japanese
2012 : BA(Japanese&Chinese)/BComm @ Monash Clayton

OMG I tried searching for "The Bottomline's Podcast" on iTunes during the year, but couldn't find it. FAIL.

Now someone tells me. =\ LOL.

That's a good resource for students as well - another way of quick revision. =)

Here is another doc, containing templates of Control Accounts and other notes (exercises and other templates as well) - I got it sent to me, after going to a lecture.

SIDE NOTE: 900th post. (I thought I'd mention that!)

Another FAQ:

Do you need to have done Accounting 1/2 to do well in Accounting 3/4?

In short, no. My school offers Accounting 3/4 in Year 11 without doing Accounting 1/2, which I took up. At my school, we had one Year 11 class doing Accounting 3/4 - no one in my class got lower than an A for the mid-year exam - which shows it can be done.

As may be the case with some students doing Accounting 3/4 in 2011, it's no disadvantage of not doing Accounting 1/2. True, it helps with the basic concepts of reports such as Balance Sheets, Cash Flow Statements and so on. But most of it, is re-taught again at the beginning of the year. You'll start on a "level footing", so to speak.

Accounting 1/2 helps if you have done it, though as you'll see throughout the year - the concepts in Unit 3/4 are vastly different from Units 1/2. If you are really that concerned, get a copy of a Accounting 1/2 textbook if you must and read over it. Though in short, I don't think it's necessary to have done Accounting 1/2 to do well in Accounting 3/4.

As well as reading this thread, I suggest people read "The Ultimate Guide to Accounting Success" by Jamison, who got 50 for Accounting in 2008. That's also a very good read. I doubt anyone is as good as him, certainly not me. I won't be getting 50 for Accounting, hopefully low 40's for me more like it.

There are a number of valuable resources on this board, from exams to tips and so on. Make use of what is available to you guys - search around and you'll be bound to find it, that's my suggestion. Ask questions to your teacher and here on VN as well, if unsure of anything.

I'll be able to help anyone throughout next year if they need any help (not actually tutoring) - since I have my own subjects to do as well - I'll point people in the right direction, just PM me.

If anyone wants actual tutoring for Accounting next year try: asap531 or mba - both are offering to tutor in Accounting as well as much more. Both IMO are very good at Accounting and know the content well - they have their credentials and all in the Advertising board. I'd recommend either of them.

I probably won't be tutoring in Accounting after finishing VCE, since the study design changes for Accounting in 2012 (finishing VCE in 2011). Hence, I'll only be able to give advice for students doing Accounting in 2011, not 2012. =\

I just downloaded these notes and the person who wrote it completed Accounting in 2005. The current study design starts from 2007 though so would there be irrelevant/missing information? Or, would this resource still be useful?

Yes, I'd think some parts are still relevant. The only main change in the current study design (2007-2011) is that GST is excluded from Budgeting. Other than that, the notes are fine. =)

I thought I'd share the e-mail that I received from the Monash University, in regards to University Accounting. I was asking the questions by the way.

Quote
I will answer your questions with the following manner:

Q: Are there set requirements in terms of grades etc, for a student to do University Accounting in Year 12? (i.e. A score of 40 or higher in Accounting 3/4)
A: A minimum is 41 for all subjects, and preferably higher for your subject preference

Q: I was told by my school's VCE coordinator, that to do a University Enhancement subject, you needed a high study score for that particular subject (i.e. a high Accounting 3/4 score to do Uni Accounting) as well as to maintain a decent/high level of grades across all other subjects. Would that be correct in saying?..
A: That's right, you will need to have a high level score accross all subject.

There goes my chance of doing MUEP Accounting. >.<

Was it at Monash? Depends on the uni, I think.

Not sure, not really close to that person. Is it only monash and melb that offer these programs or do other unis offer it as well?
