^ i would advise against the FFP, since you graduate as a full-fee student and so will struggle to get an internship (possibly) unless the 'medicine tsunami' problem doesnt resolve itself in the next few years. Try and get CSP, do not settle for FFP!!

lol, yeah, the 0.04 of an aggregate point off the CSP guarantee has me disappointed.

so annoying :(
im sure you can get into medicine somewhere after first year, like UTAS you will be fine :)

tasmania? u going to tasmania stonecold?

nah, i don't think so.  if i could manage to stay in melb and somehow get a CSP into the MD, then I would be very well off financially, which would be one less thing to worry about.

and 1% of me still says move to qld and do sci/med at griffith but it will cost a fortune, and if GPA is crap then it could be bonded.  :S

^ Haha i just meant its always an option.
it's not THAT bad, and GPA will be fine so don't worry about it - if you really want to do medicine that's probably a more secure thing to do, you will be guaranteed into medicine, can finish the MBBS and then start making money to pay it back.. i wouldn't worry about money if it means you can get into med..

It's a lot of debt to take on, just to get into a uni course. It's essentially a mortgage and you should think really seriously about it, rather than dismissing it that easily as a means to study medicine.

I think Russ posted this somewhere, can't remember exactly, (also, the course is new, so this is only based only on one years data) but apparently ~40% of people in the MD came from UoM Biomed.

I think :P

Not quite. According to our coordinator 60% of the third year cohort applied for the MD. Assuming that they were all offered an interview, then 40% of interviewees came from biomedicine at UoM. The number is probably much lower, I would be very surprised if 40% of people in the new MD are from biomedicine.

And proper numbers will be out some time in January (i might try to get them today if I can)

I suggest you go griffith.. maintaining at 5.0 gpa for 2 years then going into medicine is pretty much guaranteed place in medicine. But I dont know about your financial situation since moving to qld will probably put you out $15000 a year for rent and minimum food.

You dont even know if you can get into Melbourne MD because you have to average H2A (or H2b?) for three years for guaranteed full fee place.. and you still have to do the interview.

H2A (for 2 years if you apply straight after)

But if you fail the interview as a guaranteed candidate then you should not be a doctor as far as I'm concerned. It's not a competitive process if you have the guarantee, it's a straight pass/fail

Hence I decided not to take biomed :( Can't risk not getting into MD or dent or optom.....

What do you mean? Your chances won't somehow go up because you're in science or at another uni, it's still based on the exact same things.

yea but I'm now doing biomed/engineering, so at least I can have another career option if I can't get into postgrad, and latrobe dentistry undergrad if I do well on the UMAT next year. BIG IF!

thank you...im still tentative about choosing it, but all medical undergrads besides pharmacy have closed up on me...god I hate Melbourne (the city) in general, and my lack of interstate applications.

Thanks.  But I will see.  Somehow I am hoping to get my ATAR to go up to 99.9.  And if that fails, then maybe I'll just take FFP.  FFP or interstate CSP will end up being rather similar in cost after accommodation.

We will cross that bridge when it comes. :P

If I were to work hard now, I think I could somehow save ~50k for it.

Edit:  On a side note, can I take another VCE subject to try and get my ATAR up to 99.90?

Will the guarantee still apply?  Or will I be exempt or something because I have started an undergraduate degree?

You would pay more for a first house, isn't your career just as important?
You have to pay your HECS debt anyway. You just have to pay interest as well (if taking a loan). :)
