What kind of raw scores in each Section (Maths/Science and Humanities) typically correspond to what standardised score?

Also, I heard that Monash Uni are considering the GAT this year. Is this true, and if it is, how are they going to use it?

Thanks.

To answer your 2nd question, last year Monash trialled using the GAT as part of the things taken into consideration for the middle band. It was an opt in thing, and it was impossible to disadvantage you if you chose it. What they'll do this year I don't know; you'll probably find out towards the end of the year.

For first question, I have gotten the following
English - 27/40 -> 37
Humanities - 31/35 -> 44 and 35/35 -> 50
Maths/science - 35/35 -> 50 and 34/35 -> 48
(I don't remember my 2nd english one)

But you obviously want more data then that :P

Is there anything on the VCAA website that has sample responses to previous GAT writing tasks?

not to my knowledge, but your teachers should have them.

Hi, considering I'm only doing two Year 12 subjects this year (Psych + Bio), should I worry too much about the essay part of the GAT or should I go for the science type questions first then come back to the essay? Or should I aim to do well in all areas of the GAT?

If your subject has two exams (aka science subjects), you don't need to worry about the science/math section of the GAT. The GAT is important for subjects that only have the end of year exam (english, humanties etc..)

what do you mean? all of the math subjects have two exams as well...

does this make the entire science/math section of the GAT redundant?

thelovecatsx: the GAT is important for all subjects :)

I would do my best in all the areas of the GAT. You never know when it might come in handy - e.g. next year you might be in hospital or something on the day of the GAT so you might have to rely on this one instead (not sure if that's how it works but can't think of any other solution to it) (also I know that's damn unlikely but twas just an example :P)

I'm a bit worried about where you received this information from thelovecatsx

All sections of the GAT can be used to moderate your SAC marks (only upwards of course - it won't negatively impact on them) and it is applied to ALL subjects.

It's also taken into consideration should you need a derived exam mark (and that's happened to a student at my school who didn't take the GAT seriously, had to leave another exam early, applied for a derived score but because her GAT marks were poor they took that as evidence that they mark she got on the exam wasn't affected by her needing to leave early, so no derived score given)

The GAT that KeyMan sits this Friday will be used to moderate his SAC marks for Biol and Psych so he should take it seriously and try his best.

From what i've heard many Universities are talking of using the GAT results to help with middle band entry

Ah alright. Someone told me that only those parts were important. Ignore what I said previously then. :buck2:
