What up?

I'm going to do the population issue in Australia, discussing the idiots that believe Australia is full, as well as other relevant... things to that subject.

Anyone also interested in this, we could definitely help one another out.

“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely -- at least, not all the time -- but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”

This might actually end up being a good thing for you. Your teacher would be able to make comparisons between presentations much more easily, and hopefully, you did a better job than the other person! ;) At our school, the Head of English just chooses 2 recent issues and everyone in the year level has to do one of these 2.

Nothing happens to you. IMO you'd be better of presenting an issue/topic that not many students are going to do. It's more appealing to your teacher/marker - than hearing the same issue/topic over 100 times. That's just me, it's up to you what issue you do.

my english oral is a persuasive oral with no palm cards, it has to be presented first week back :S
if you borrow a copy of eng checkpoints 2010, there are some good pointers on how to present your oral and best ways to engage the audience
my oral is going to be out the burqa issue and will be looking at why australia should NOT ban the burqa as it limits one's right to religion (s.116) - legal studies student :D

I'd do that issue as well, though it would be quite ironic since I go to one.

The issue of the burqa is a good one. You have a lot things to talk about etc.

You poor students having to sit there and listen to the same two topics over and over! I find it worse enough when there's one double up...

do you think that talking about the burqa issue might not be a good idea? my mum says that if the teachers are racist they might hate my oral and mark me down...should i do a more detached issue instead?

It's an issue with substance, for sure. You can present a strong case, either way. I see where you're coming from about teachers, but I wouldn't worry. Teachers should be impartial and mark orals on their merit - on the point of view/argument presented. I'd stick with it. It's a good issue to talk about.

I suppose there are a few of those people out there, but I don't think you should let them prevent you. If you feel more passionate about this than something else then it might impact on your oral. I like this issue a lot because it is pretty clear-cut and it's not so convoluted. Perhaps find out who your English teacher is (or think about all of your school's teacher and if there are any jerks there). IMO, only do a "detached" issue if you are confident with it.
