kyzoo 99.90 Tutoring Spesh 50 RAW; Physics 50
« on: November 24, 2010, 09:55:25 pm »
Hi there =D,

I graduated from Melbourne Grammar School (2010) with an ATAR of 99.90

I will be offering tuition in 2010 summer holidays/2011 for the following subjects

•   Units 3 & 4 Specialist Mathematics (2010 - 50 --> 51.6)
•   Units 3 & 4 Physics (2010 - 50 --> 50)
•   Units 3 & 4 Mathematical Methods CAS (2009 - 48 --> 49.4)
•   Units 3 & 4 Chemistry (2010 - 43 --> 46.5)

On the side I can also offer some assistance for other subjects I have done:
•   Unit 1+2 components of the above subjects.
•   UMEP Mathematics

Why me?

In my time as a VCE student, I have observed how some teachers rely too much on dry textbook-style explanations. These quickly become dull and cause students to zone out. As a private tutor, I will make it my mission to avoid this; I will cater to your needs specifically and make sure that you have a comprehensive understanding of the concepts you need to know.

In particular, I’m good at coming up with weird analogies that make for a much easier understanding of unfamiliar concepts. I love doing this - coming up with random analogies that make learning fun and creative (e.g. relating Star Wars and the Death Star superlaser to power function graphs in Methods =D). The more unconventional an analogy is, the better, as it becomes more memorable.

I've had experience helping fellow students alleviate confusions about new concepts and unfamiliar questions. I once taught a Unit 2 Physics class for the entire period on the concepts of momentum and impulse. I remember peppering it with analogies about Snorlax or something along those lines xD.

I emphasise fundamental understanding and deriving formulas from first principles, rather than rote memorization which is less effective and leads to unnecessary stress. I can help you become a better self-learner, having revolutionized my learning process at the start of Y11.

I know the courses inside-out. I made it my business to find and understand all the possible tricky parts of the course that could cause me to lose marks in the exam and SACs if I wasn't careful, and I can provide you with my own notes on these tricky points. As evidence, I wrote the following posts.
•   http://vcenotes.com/forum/index.php/topic,20778.0.html
•   http://vcenotes.com/forum/index.php/topic,32327.0.html
•   Also I achieved rank #1 for the Dr. He Specialist Mathematics Trial Examinations.

As exams approach, I can help you develop exam technique as well as advise you on how to prepare for exams. For me, exam preparation period (October) was the easiest and most relaxing (but boring =X) part of the entire year. You do not need to spend excessive amounts of time revising the entire course (I only spent maybe 3-4 hours total for each subject on this). Exam preparation is about finding gaps in your knowledge and refining your exam technique. I can advise you on how to significantly reduce careless errors and thereby maximise your marks, having done this myself.

Location
Preferably State Library (I live really close to the CBD - sometimes I just walk to the State Library when I don’t want to pay for a tram ticket). I’ll consider travelling to other locations if they’re close enough

If kyzoo gets anything less than 99.80 it will be an injustice.

And dw, he will most likely get a perfect score because he is so pro!
