Yeah, I love them too! They're also very cheap.

I don't use them anymore though, I prefer books where you can fold them in half without breaking it :P
Spine book thingos = <3

Yah, i used colourhide ones with the little spiral wire binding thing in year 10 and they were good. But nothing beats woolworths red books for me.

I think this year im going to go loose-leaf crazy since I remember how much I HATED leaving spaces in my GMA workbooks if I couldn't do the question and had to come back to it later, realizing that I didn't leave enough space to solve the equation!

I did that ring folder idea for English language. I swear my folder grew to 2-3kg. Such a pain to carry.
So that's one negative :p do u think there is better ideas or?

It is totally dependent on the individual.

One of my friends actually had a folder for everything he needed on the day (ex homework and notes that the teacher was going to make reference to) and wrote on loose leaf. Then he sorted it at home, and re-wrote the notes by hand. I think that's a good way as well. However, the down side to that is if you want to flick back during the class to something from earlier on, when you draw links within the course. The moral is definitely you have to find the way that suits you best and there is always two sides to every story - as there are pros and cons.

For math I wrote out concepts and lesson notes at the back of a book/or a totally different one (which proved to be quite heavy in the end so I ditched this idea) and did all the exercises at the front. So I simply flipped the book. By having two books though, this saves you from having to make your bound reference at the end of the year. It is also easy revision.

In regards to my EL: it was so heavy because I split it into areas of studies and sorted it as "overview - ex. study design requirements" then I made notes under each dot point. I had a plastic pocket for examples and other loose bits from class (activities) and then a plastic pocket for sample essays and my essays.

Another note: for maths subjects and ones that required a lot of exercises of similar types I avoided the rings but went for the thicker ones without them so they wouldn't tear out.

I use the Marbig ColourHide books for my maths. I love them!
Purple: GMA
Green: Methods.
I like them because you can rip individual pages out with ease.... and rage at the same time :D

I use the exact same colours for the exact same subjects
lol, freaky ..

Im going to use small A5 books for my subjects cause its more convenient and you can slip them into your plastic folders.
I remember for term 4 i got a huge spirax notebook divided into 5 subjects and each section was coloured differently. so like for my english section all the pages were pink, science they were blue etc. but it eventually fell apart (too much stuff inside) and i had to sticky tape it all back together. But i found it pretty handy cause it had most of my subjects in there. but then again, that was just year 10 and if i had used that same book for whole year, i probably would have given up half year. too messy.
LOL i just got one of those red exercise books from woolworths around a month ago but i dont think ill use them next yr - i like pwetty books! makes me happier while working my ass off :P
Oh yea dont get dragged into buying those cheap ones from Big W they sell every year during those massive school sales. when you rub stuff out parts of the page attaches itself to the eraser or the whole page rips in half, so you end up feeling frustrated and going crazy  :tickedoff:

I don't like using A5 books for subjects, in maths I ended up using a couple of pagest to do big equations and in english I can't work out how many words I have written/

Hah don't think il be going to big w but thanks for advice :)
Wellthanks for all help guys il try and steer clear of note taking on my laptop especially for my 3/4s...
English seems the biggest difference for people how they take their notes and so on I think il just use a mixture and see what works best for yr 12 when it will really count...
Does anyone no of any books that have 6 sections in it like 6 subject dividers..I can only fond 5 subject ones I would love one where I could have 6 sections for each area of study for busines especially..
And again more advice welcome especially from recent yr 12s with good scores ;)

I find it best to handwrite notes throughout the year and then type them up as it allows me to remember everything I wrote down, have a clean and easy to use lot of notes and also it meant that I could send my notes to younger friends to help them out for when they get to yr 11.

As for stationary - you're overthinking it. Go simple. Get a three subject book for everything but your 3/4s and Maths, get a massive book for maths and just normal excercise books for the 3/4s. The problem with lecture pads, and anything with spirals for that matter, is they decompose like something that decomposes quickly (I didn't do bio); sheets fall out, the cover breaks and it begins to look pretty disorganised. So a 3-subject book for some 1/2s is fine because you don't want to be carrying too much, but for the 3/4s where you will rely on having your notes from term 1 at the end of the year, a book that is unlikely to break is much better.

(Also, ATAR is no indication of organisation level,  a friend of mine last year had all his notes in what looked like preparation for a campfire throughout the year, and still got a 99.00. It differs with every person).

THIS IS SUCH A WIN THREAD.

But.

What about for LOTE Subjects? Anyone have any recommendations? I'm off to Officeworks on Thursday, so excited. And English Language as well, if you can, need some help there as well.

“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely -- at least, not all the time -- but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”
