It depends on whether you like Malouf. There is a smartstudy on Ransom, but i don't know whether that is good. I'd watch Troy, and read some of the Illiad.

Yes I agree with the many critiques that Malouf is one of Australia's finest writers.

Is it me, or did I feel that the ending was abit anti climatic?
About Philosophy

When I see a youth thus engaged,—the study appears to me to be in character, and becoming a man of liberal education, and him who neglects philosophy I regard as an inferior man, who will never aspire to anything great or noble. But if I see him continuing the study in later life, and not leaving off, I should like to beat him - Callicle

Well i was reading a study guide as well as the book at the same time, so i kind of expected the ending.
The harmony and peace between the characters is pretty cool though

I suggest you don't read a study guide with it at same time. I think study guides should come in after 2 or 3 readings. You need you're own ideas because anyone can pick up the study guide and write from that.

To stand out you really need to shape your own perspective of the novels.

Damn hard to get into, but when you reach a certain point, it:s so easy to read.

Agreed

Yea second half the book is easier to read than first half. Second reading is twice as good as first as well :)
