Damn that attitude is pretty pretentious at best...

Remember though that in IB it's about bringing you up to a 7 standard (as in grade = 7) in each subject, whilst in VCE it's not about merely going to A+ standard, it's about getting 100% in every goddamn assessment!

Yeah. I got into a rather heated argument with one of my IB friends over it - she basically outright said "VCE is a stupid system, it's so easy to do well in" and I brought up the same point about how a 7 in IB is equivalent to maybe a mid-40 to 50 subject score in VCE (if it's A+, I might go so far as to say it's equivalent to 40+, but I think it's harder to get a 7 in IB than a 40 in VCE) and I should probs stop spamming this thread with my ranting now.

Haha the nature of discourse is that topics change :P
This topic was not one that was meant to be stagnant
so np

There you go - about IB vs VCE

Having said that I would have liked to do IB because it gives me (correct me if i'm wrong) a good generic education - well rounded...and i dont have to be concerned about getting 100% in EVERYTHING

Yeah, IB gives you a broader and deeper education, but I'm glad I picked VCE. I hear from my friends that the IB exams are way less in-depth than VCE exams, as they have to cover two years' worth of topics in a single examination, so you don't get the crazy-hard application questions for science and maths subjects that can pop up in VCE.
Mostly, I'm glad I picked VCE for the freedom that I have. Four VCE subjects next year = a plethora of spares; we get afternoons off (I've actually spent WAY more time hanging out with my friends outside of school this year than I did pre-VCE), and I also get to do Uni Enhancement in lieu of a regular 3/4 subject. Also, I've been able to shuffle around my subjects heaps. People say IB requires you to work harder, but achieving in VCE requires just as much effort.

Unless you made the mistake of taking 6 subjects in year 12 like me. :S

It's not too late! You can still drop one, unless you're really passionate about all your subjects, and can't bear to drop one. I still have 6 subjects lined up for next year...I need to get Physics taken off my timetable, but I don't think I can until school starts, in which case, my Physics teacher will have my name on his roll, and will be disappointed when he finds out that I'm dropping it :( I don't want him to be sad. LOL half of my Physics class (i.e. 6 of the 12 VCE Physics students in my year level) are dropping it. My poor teacher. He's nice, just a bit too crazy and absent-minded for VCE-level teaching. I've never gotten a perfect mark for a prac write-up, and I've never gotten any kind of explanation as to why. If I ask what I did wrong I get a vague "It's good...but it could be better." Went off on a bit of a tangent there - it seems I've quite recently developed a propensity for steering this thread off-topic.

Ahh dw about off-topicness

Well I considered dropping physics...but shall we say that my dad said something along the lines of "over my dead body you will" :P

LOL. I was considering dropping French at first, then I realised how crazy that was, seeing as I have straight As and A+s in French and I think I could pull off a decent SS, followed by epic scaling. As for physics, my report made me LOL. C for pracwork, B for tests, then A+ for exam. Physics ended up being my best exam lol (apart from methods) but yeah, my parents aren't going to refuse my dropping the subject after those inconsistent results. Actually, I don't think they really care which subjects I pick, as long as I don't do something completely ridiculous.
My dad agrees with your dad on the importance of Physics, but I can learn all the interesting bits from the internet and books, and I can always pick it up again in uni, so I don't think parting with VCE Physics is going to scar me for life.

This was me at the start of the year.  I was literally forced by VCAA to do five subjects though.  :(

lol EZ exam timetable constraints?

Seems like many schools are the same: >50% of 1/2 physics students drop it before heading into year 12. Maybe there's just a lack of good teachers for it...or maybe the curriculum is just bad? :P

^ from my (albeit very limited) experience, it's difficult to find a good physics teacher who will explain the concepts well.

Just for your knowledge above ^^, an IB grade of 7 is equivalent to a studyscore of 42 and above.

Really? That doesn't sound right...unless we're considering that one needs to learn harder course content
