“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely -- at least, not all the time -- but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”

Ancient Persian Proverb; " I Wept because i had no Shoes, until i saw a man with no feet!"

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me -- and there was no one left to speak for me.

Slightly off-topic, six of the seven duxes from my school in 2009 have ads on this site IIRC.  :3

Any ideas on how many your school is looking at getting this year?

A few years ago my school had 7 duxes with 99.95 -3 VCE 4 IB, or maybe it was vice versa, I can't remember.

I wouldn't be happy with an ATAR below 98...

This. My brother got a 98.35, and I absolutely have to beat that.
I won the GAT: 49/50/50.
Tutoring! Maths Methods (50), Specialist Maths (43), Chemistry (45)

^ International Baccelerate.. I think that's how you spell it. (It's just another secondary schooling certificate like VCE)

No pressure on me. I have no effect on the result anymore.

Good point. Don't want expectations to be, unfair I guess.

I'm guessing two to four - doubt we'll match last year.

At my school (also in the Northern suburbs) I think the dux got 81 when I was in year 8. Last year the dux got 99.7 or something, so I think that there has been a huge improvement (or there have just been a number of flukes in recent years).

I know this is off-topic, but I just read that John Brumby and Ted Baillieu went to your school EZ, Melbourne Grammar, and they were also in the same year level! Strange..

In general, my school has roughly 5% of its year 12 cohort achieve an ATAR score over 90.. this isn't much, considering there are 350 year 12s. One or two get over 99 - last year's was the highest so far in the school's history, with a 99.80.
