Recommend English 3+4 tutors?
« on: December 06, 2010, 01:28:19 pm »
Hi, I was looking for a reputable english tutor.
If it helps, the texts i will be doing at school are :
Maestro, The crucible and The rugmaker of mazar-e-shariff (or something similar to that name).
I'm generally looking to work on my writing style/structure, I'm not so confident with 'creating and presenting' and issues analysis could use improvement.
Does anyone recommend tutors outside the vcenotes circle?
Thanks

Edit: I am still tutorless. I prefer a tutor outside the vcenotes circle, as it is my understanding english is a much more diverse course than other subjects.. An experienced tutor would be able to analyse things better than a student who got 45+ SS in VCE English (which although is an achievment, does not prove to me they can tutor well).
So, if anyone can recommend tutors outside vnotes (or if anyone knows tutors from vcenotes, whose students have gotten pretty good scores [this may sound slightly blunt, but I have my reasons]) i'd appreciate it.
I went to Liz once, but I think she is really just too far away from me, and she seems too busy (i emailed her a week ago and still have not received a reply), in terms of time i didn't find her "worth it" in my case (60 min drive there, 1hr class.., 60 min drive back, = 2:1 ratio, i like to maintain a 0.34:1 ratio, but if the tutor is worth it, then i wouldn't mind a 1.5:1 ratio or even more)
I am located in the SE Suburbs btw.
Thanks again,
has anyone heard of:
Terry Lourence or Lucille Philip?

Shinny.

“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely -- at least, not all the time -- but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”

As far as I'm aware, she's the only teacher..

Yea i thought so too, I had been taught by Dawn (is it spelled Dorne?), kinda old but looks young for her age, british, teaching for ages, I had her at James An College when i went there a few months back.
The person who informed me said Dianne though, so i thought it was a different person

I would recommend a private tutor over those 30 dollars a week group tuition sessions with 10 people.

Too easy to fall behind :X
