I think the only difference is that he found the balance between "getting in there" and studying.

+1, academic awards in year 9 and 10 are for the MHS alpha-nerds (such as the guy in my class last year who didn't even know the school had two cricket nets  ???)... It in year 11 and 12 where the ranking starts to matter, and only a few yr 9 and 10 academic award winners get them again (and after that, who cares?).

I'm not saying Yr 9 /10 academic awards are important, I'm saying their a good indicator of who you can expect to do better on average in VCE - As a very general rule
This. The ACA award differentiates on PE, History and Geography - 'nuff said.

Okay. You did way better on me than history, pe and geo...
I got C's and D's on them....
Anyway.

people who get ACA ARE GENERALLY PEOPLE WHO GIVE A F***.

People who give a f*** are more likely to put time in to school.

people who put time into school are more likely to do well at school.

People who do well at school are more likely to get a higher ATAR.....

GENERALLY

“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely -- at least, not all the time -- but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”

About Philosophy

When I see a youth thus engaged,—the study appears to me to be in character, and becoming a man of liberal education, and him who neglects philosophy I regard as an inferior man, who will never aspire to anything great or noble. But if I see him continuing the study in later life, and not leaving off, I should like to beat him - Callicle

Awesome scores, but not exactly 2010 VN.
