Believe it or not, the forums were specifically designed to be separate. Our original concept was to have the forums entirely separated; not even sharing the same userbase. However, we decided it would be best to allow users from every state to view the entire system in order to make the best use of the information. The design purposely encourages users to mainly post within their own state and relative subjects, but still be able to peruse other state forums for other/additional information, and of course for the sake of curiosity. One of the drawbacks to this design was that certain aspects could not be globalized. Whether or not posting privileges on other forums will be modified in the future is up to enwiabe, and perhaps he can expound on all of this further. Unfortunately, without a complete redesign of the system, PMs and other such aspects will not be available across all the boards... Possibly sometime in the future depending on the needs and requests of the community as well as the success of the other forums. So, uhh, we'll see. =/

Half of my hotbar links have disappeared (profile, messages etc.)

Additionally, when I try to go to the URL I get told

Excuse my ignorance, but why can't it just be kept as one forum, and each state then gets a subforum within that?

Wouldn't that do away with all these complications of having separate forums and then needing to integrate them?

It was discussed. I don't remember all of the reasons we decided not to do it that way... One of the main issues was that if we allowed everyone to see all of the "subforums" like we had wanted, we'd end up with a board index page a mile long. Maybe partly a wanting to keep the sites more separated as well.

People (well one person I noticed) who had their username changed appear to be posting on the vce subdomain with the "new" name and on the national forum with the "old" name.

;D Would that be me? ;) I noticed this as well - strangely, signature/karma/post count changes aren't taken into account on the national forum either.

Funnily enough, I noticed you as well. It read "Cambridge0012" in the National forum, while it says you're "werdna" on VCENotes. It's happening with everyone, myself included. Presumably it will be fixed soon.

I think Ninwa is aware that name changes she makes on VN only apply to VN and not AN. I'm sure she'll get around to fixing them over all the other subforums. The sig/karma/post count thing is intentional as explained previously since all the forums are designed to be separate.
