Study Score Archive - Quppa needs our help!

So I'm sure a lot of you on her know of the Study Score Archive, the files that categorise the 40+ students into their relevant schools and subjects.

Well this year, the Herald Sun online has changed the way it displays these names, in a way that no longer displays a student's school.


So, for this reason, unless we do something quppa won't be able to do what he's done for so long and we will no longer be able to benefit from his great service.

We need all you VN braniacs to think up a way to get these names and their schools in an online text format, so that they can be easily copied and pasted and sorted using quppa's program.

So far, I have looked at newsbank and the Herald Sun online, as they both have an online copy of the hard copy edition of the paper in which students have their school name, but neither work; newsbank doesn't have the VCE liftout and the Herald Sun online's pages are a picture as opposed to text, so they cannot be copied.


The only other ideas that have come to mind are The Age online - I know our school has a subscription to login and read the age online, but unfortunately I have lost the login details and am unable to do so, so if yuor school has this access can you please see if you are able to login and view the age liftout from yesterdays paper!

Otherwise, if we get enough people, we could use the hard copy edition of the paper and manually type in the school for every kid that got 40+

+ 1. Such a great resource, I'm 100% happy to help. Even if it means manually doing it. At least the student names are all online. All that will need to be done is assigning a school to each name in the database. And you can just use copy and paste to attach the names I guess.

Come on Vners! There'll need to be a lot of help to make this work.

but i reckon we need 50+ people to help out

Yeh we will need a few people, afterall there are 23000 names...

Well I'm not sure if he knows about this thread exactly, but I've had a chat to him about the present situation and what we can do about it.

I'll let him know now though...

Hey, I'm happy to help. I have some scanning software that can recognise words and digitise them, but I've never tried tiefore...I can give it a shot.

Yeh I was thinking about that...
If you go to http://heraldsun.newspaperdirect.com/epaper/viewer.aspx sign up for a 1 day free trial and then maybe print screen it and put it into the software?
I'll have a look around for some software and see the success of that before we go to our last resort...

Hmm for some reason, In I.E it comes up as an Excel file... but in Opera it comes up as text? Hmm

That SHOULD be ok, but I'll give Quppa a PM and see what we need.

If your using word to do this, you can edit/replace all the word (Eg. Accounting, or '47') and get rid of it
