do you really think it would have influence on this year's entry though?

May I ask what specific major during third year do we take for graduate programs like Medicine, etc? I've reading the website and course guides, none of them makes any sense to me.

Russ should probably answer that since hes doing gamsat and whatnot

but i actually don't think it matters (edit: it does matter in 2nd year see below) but obviously you would want to do something biomedical...cause medicine is general since you can specialise in one area later on

like maybe these???
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Cell and Developmental Biology
Chemistry
Genetics
Human Structure and Function
Microbiology, Infection and Immunology
Pathology
Neuroscience
Pharmacology
Physiology

okay so once you picked your major, are there subjects offered in that major- and how many do you pick?

also im interested in HSF, neuroscience, physiology and psychology. Does anyone have any experience with these majors? And which one do you think would be the best to do if you are considering med in the future.

Sorry about these noob questions- just really confused :S

ah why am i talking im not even doing science at melbourne  :P lol

yeah they are units specific for that major

like here

https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2011/!R01-AA-MAJ%2B1018

theres also sample course plans

http://www.bsc.unimelb.edu.au/majors/major/neuroscience
http://www.bsc.unimelb.edu.au/majors/major/psychology

there r ppl doing HSF like Peedles (HSF) and Jasrulz63 (HSF) and Edmund (Physiology) although prob edmund can give u some insight of physiology since he did 2nd year units whereas the other two are only starting 2nd year next year

they do work but you have to copy+paste the whole thing

for example HSF

in third year u need to do
ANAT30007 (516-311) Human Locomotor Systems
ANAT30008 (516-312) Viscera and Visceral Systems
plus two more HSF electives
2nd yr u need to have done this unit
ANAT20006 (516-210) Principles of Human Structure
and Integrative Human Physiology
and 1st year you do the biology units

monash has a better, easier website to navigate through  :P

I'm pretty sure for postgrad med, the only prerequisites are 2nd year anatomy, physiology and biochemistry.

yeah see so its only 2nd year units that are prereqs so this indicates that your suggested major should be either
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology or Physiology or Human Structure and Function if you plan to do medicine afterwards (but does not have to since you can do anything in 3rd year which you have the prereqs for)

So you couldn't major in Neuroscience if you wanted to go onto post grad med :'(
