Ok so how many hours is 'full time' uni? And how many days will I be going?

Also..when do I start? :S

Full time uni is 4 subjects a week, contact hours varies but for first year science I would estimate 20 hours (depends on whether you do prac subjects basically). That doesn't include study you have to do outside uni.

You will almost certainly be going in 5 days a week, you might be able to swing it to get a day off but it requires a fair bit of luck.

And you start on the 28th of Feb, but O week is the week before that. I'm actually writing an intro to uni that i'll post soon in the UoM forum, look out for it there

Thanks for the prompt reply.

If I don't do prac subjects then will I have less days?
And is second/third year less?

Thanks.

Possibly but not probably. Assume you have 3 subjects with 3 lectures a week (science subjects) and 1 subject with 2 lectures a week (breadth) - that's 11 lectures to fit into 5 days. If you want to skip a lecture(s) to have a day off then that's up to you though.

I've never had a day off, but I have had days with only 1 lecture on them (which I can then skip and listen to online).

Second and third year is generally less but again, it really depends on your major and chosen subjects. If you choose a major based around practical assessment/experience, you'll be spending a lot of time in labs. For example, pathology has 6 hour prac classes.

You'll never have as few hours as an arts student though, so get used to it :P

Haha maybe I should switch to arts? :P

I really didn't want to go every day, so how long is the typical day? Are some shorter than others?

Some days are short (1 class only) some are long (9 to 5).

It really depends. If you check the handbook and find some subjects you want to do in first semester (eg chem 101, bio 101, calc1, breadth) you can check their lecture/tute times and see what sort of week you'll be having.
