Locking a thread

Quote 'I'm going to lock this on the basis of the OP's question being answered'

On the basis of a question being answered, the majority of threads should be locked. Why are they remained open?

Some questions are multi-faceted and require alternate persepectives to be analysed properly. Occassionally there will be questions out there where one answer is not enough and satisfying to the OP.

On the basis that this question has been answered by boysenberry I think a mod should lock this thread.

If someone asks a question and the thread degenerates after it's answered, then it's perfectly reasonable to lock it. Other threads (where this isn't happening) remain open so that if there's anything that comes up in the future it can be added.

I don't know which thread you're referring to, but it sounds like something like that happened

The quote from the OP was taiga's - and I think it was a good move. When a question has been answered to an adequate extent, in most cases, it doesn't have to remain open.. because this would just lead to off-topic discussion. For example, the 'Where are you at?' thread.

He's talking about a maths thread
Nothing useful came out of it after the first page, and it was descending into cyber-testosterone fueled idiocy.

A good move, I got what I needed from taiga and TT pretty much in the first 5 posts. I don't think absolute value graphs are interesting enough for any further non-nonsensical discussion.

So instead of keeping the Absolute Graph thread open for other people who might want help with absolute graphs you lock the thread forcing kids to make a different thread about absolute graphs filling the forums with repetitive nonsense?

People make threads for every question they have rather than grouping them all into one thread. Of course there is going to be repetitive nonsense.

I think someone made one after seeing this.

That was going nowhere and all the necessary info had been given. Locking it was the right thing to do.

And it's much better if people make threads separate to one that was derailed like that anyway.

Maybe I should just start ante'ing up the punishments for people posting off-topic crap again.

It worked for a period of time when I did it last. I'm sure it will work again.

I want to know why the thread (absolute value graphs) is locked that stopped me from replying. I pointed out some misinformation and incorrect explanations. Thanks to someone who pointed out the inconsistency of this mod in another thread (absolute value graphs II).

itolduso,

What you brought up in the first thread was irrelevant to the OP's question, which had already been answered (yes in the study design, no not very often appears in exams). Locking it was the correct decision.

The 2nd thread is regarding a specific modulus question and therefore has not yet gone off topic / still has aspects which have not been answered.

Also, I love how you say "someone has pointed out the mod's inconsistency".
1) What inconsistency? Mods are allowed to make mistakes. The moderation decision itself is correct.
2) "Someone" lol. Why bother using a different account and then thanking...yourself? If you are so sure you are right next time, you shouldn't need to go signing into another account to make it look like you have supporters.
