Online is generally the best, book depository or amazon. Encompass books are in Carlton and good but they won't be open/stocked before semester.

Never use the bookstore

If possible, I like to buy my textbooks second hand.
www.textbookexchange.com.au

Good website.
I use it to buy and sell uni books.
Otherwise, I just borrow from the uni library and keep renewing the books until the end of the relevant semester

Check prices here: http://booko.com.au/ <-- really awesome.

I usually end up buying off http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/ or the US counterpart, http://www.bookdepository.com. (Free shipping)

Right now you can get 10% off the UK site by going through this link and typing in the code at checkout:

So we just look up the handbooks and start buying them before receiving the booklist and the need to organise our timetables? I find it a bit risky to do everything so early though.

Dude you start in March LOL !!! ... Timetables may change in the next three months so i don't see the point of making your timetable right now. You'll also find that in first year unless tutorial hurdle attendance is required, that most classes are flexible and you can just go to whatever tute/lecture that suits you. Even though it isn't recommended.

Haha, that was what I'm trying to say. It's too early to get ready. Haven't even got the offers in yet!

Is there some site to see what textbooks are required for each unit (eg. what book for principles of accounting and finance or introduction to microeconomics?)

I personally don't like textbookexchange because I buy new books for the online access, but if your texts don't have that then it's fine.

@avO, check the monash subject guide?

I have first year engineering and physics textbooks if anybody wants to buy them. I'm a slack student, so they've barely been opened. :P

On the subject of university textbooks, does anybody keep theirs? I'm going to be studying second year economics next year, so I'm thinking it mightbe easier to keep my first year textbooks. What do you guys think?
