The only way they'll be useful is as a reference text. Most first year subjects are fairly broad and the textbooks have a lot of info that won't be in more specific textbooks for later years. They won't really be helpful compared to the books you'll get for your new subjects.

LEGIT - Finished senior high school year twice in 2010. :D
Don't ever do VCE without Year 11 and missing one Sem of Year 12. Believe me its quite a pain.

*2011: UoM Commerce (WISHING) but most probably Science :D WOOOO COMMERCE!!

The prescribed texts for each subject are listed on each subject's handbook page.

But is it a good time to buy as early as now? Or would you recommend waiting for the 2 weeks before classes start? Thanks rustic_metal! :)

lol to reinforce anything you weren't clear about in the lectures
but yeah just wait and see what the lecturer says. sometimes you need the textbook like for 1st year stats i needed it cause in the tutorials we were referring to it alot so it was easier to just buy it...also in third year i needed to buy the textbook since i referred to it alot and it was helpful but yeah other than that you might need it for a chapter or part of a chapter but its not worth paying so much money to buy it and hardly using it, u might as well borrow the book for a week
